Kedanieh Myers used to be a shy individual who didn’t want to be the center of attention. Now she’s in the spotlight, pulled in by the musical prowess she brings to the table. She might have changed from being a timid individual to a woman with powerful vocals performing center stage, but her love for Jamaican music hasn’t changed one bit.
This talented singer-artist-musician on the rise, who has dubbed herself ‘K’Danye,’ has entered the music industry and is giving Jamaican music her own kick. Being born and raised in the beautiful country of Jamaica, it’s no wonder she has chosen a path where she could pay homage to her roots and inspire people with her music. Through her success now and in the future, she hopes to positively influence the younger generation to dream big and serve as shining examples for future generations.
Growing up in Jamaica, she was mostly inspired by the musical styles of Dancehall, Reggae, Hip Hop, and R&B. At present, she has chosen a career making music in the genres of Roots Reggae and Lover’s Rock, both close to her heritage and her heart. But K’Danye is adventurous in her creative process and takes an open-minded approach. She’s not afraid to be inspired by other genres and may take some elements from them, so she could achieve the distinct sound she’s aiming for.
K’Danye has always aspired to be a singer-artist-musician since she was young, so she kept polishing her talents until she found her own music style that reflects her musical preference and personality. A major recording label didn’t record her first songs, but she was still able to achieve authenticity and add a sprinkling of her own take. You may have figured by now that the birth of K’Danye’s career wasn’t as easy as one could hope.
K’Danye’s career had humble beginnings. She made her first recordings with a college friend, using that friend’s equipment. Only until she met the producer during her internship, she was able to invest in her own equipment. Her first recording studio was a small closet and yet, she was able to record her first EP with the producer she met. This just manifests how she values friendship amid her glaring achievements.
But because of K’Danye’s grit and hard efforts to make it big, she eventually found a way to past the gates of the music industry. She had the pleasure of meeting a producer while trying to get an internship, and through his support, dropped her first EP titled ‘Ms. International.’ But K’Danye was still determined to push herself further so she could secure more funds. It was a simple solution to burn CDs for her EP, as well as, ‘Mr. Poverty,’ but she was able to save enough for the next steps in her career.
Lo and behold, after that, she was able to drop the hits titled ‘Ms. International,’ and other songs titled, ‘Rocky No More,’ ‘Mr. Poverty’, ‘Ready or Not,’ and ‘Brave Up,’. She grew out of her shell and worked hard, ready to take on the world. She was convinced that the only way to get her music known was to be more confident in her herself and natural abilities first, and the rest will follow.
K’Danye has performed at many locations, but one of her most unforgettable performances was her first stage show called the ‘GT Taylor Extravaganza’ in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Since 2014, she has been seen performing at other locations such as Red Light Café, Apache Cafe, Kat’s Café, events by The Caribbean Student Association (Caribsa), and at other colleges. When 2018 came around, she has attained a higher status in the Jamaican music scene and earned even more fans, supporters and connections in the music industry.
When asked to share a little more about her other passions, she explained, ‘I’m a compassionate person. When I become a major recording artist, I want to help my family and other people in need. It breaks my heart when I am not able to, so this is a mission of mine.’ K’Danye also values her integrity and trustworthiness and vows to keep them intact as she deals within the music industry. She continues, ‘I know that a lot of that lacks in the business, so I hope to bring a little change.’
K’Danye stands out from the rest of the artists in the genre through her unique tone, powerful voice, emotionally-evoking lyrics, and her liberal, creative process—each a direct reflection of her ode to her Jamaican roots, her fantastic personality and an artistic mind.
