Meet Matt Conklin, The Founder of Lucid Socks

Matt Conklin’s road to success has never been an easy one. Growing up in Oldsmar, Florida, Matt played sports in his early years but never felt they were his passion. He turned to skateboarding and BMX biking and instantly fell in love with his new hobbies. For the most part, Matt had a pretty normal childhood until his teenage years when he started to rebel against his parents and get into things he never should have.

Matt’s troubled road landed him in prison for a period of time, but it gave him the opportunity to work on himself and begin a life changing transformation. Matt said, “  As a teenager I did some things I deeply regret that resulted in some prison time. I used that time to grow myself as much as possible, I read nonstop, I took college classes, and every completed every trade offered. The challenge of getting people to trust me and see the potential in me was my hardest challenge. Gratefully, I overcame that challenge and constantly have been proving my people wrong through my success.” So where is Matt now?

After working hard to make a clean come back, Matt started a subscription based sock brand called Lucid Socks. The company is founded on the idea of self expression and comfort. Matt said the message behind the brand is “that everyone is different, everyone has their own personality and style, which makes us individuals. People should have the option to get products to fit them as an individual.” The brand has seen early success, with over 80,000 pairs of socks sold in it’s short time as a company. However, the success didn’t come easy.

The most difficult challenge for Lucid Socks was finding a way to correctly personalize every customer’s subscription box. Matt said “In the beginning we received complaints that some months socks were too bold or too plain. After some trial and error, we created the ability to customize a subscription for our customers on our website, now our customers know they will get socks they will love and be excited for their box every month.”

The effort put into curating the right type of sock packages has paid off tremendously. The company plans to continue to expand as Matt sees success as the only option. Despite all of the set backs, heartaches, and time in prison, Matt continues to prove his doubters wrong. When we asked Matt for some advice for upcoming entrepreneurs who are going down a similar path he said, “If I could leave you with one thing it would be to never give up on your dreams. I’ve been told I would never be successful, that I would just be another statistic in the system, many negative hurtful things. Those statements were just motivation to prove them wrong, I kept pushing, never gave up, and Lucid Socks is my way of proving that.”
