Marc Ryan Effron is the co-founder of Legacy Healing Center. His treatment center focuses on healing substance abuse and mental health issues and has treated over 10,000 patients since the program was founded. Having gone through sobriety himself, Marc has ensured his programs are so thorough he could send his own children through them if the need were ever to exist. We break down what led Marc to establish one of the best treatment facilities in the world and some of his top tips to those looking at growing their business.

Growing up, Marc was raised by his mother and stepfather. Despite having a difficult childhood, himself, Marc excelled at developing and building relationships, a skill set that was a fundamental part of his life’s success. He worked his way up the corporate ladder very quickly, being promoted to vice president of a large financial company in his early twenties.

Although his career appeared successful, Marc always felt something was missing. The lack of fulfillment led Marc down a dark path, which was perhaps caused by his troublesome childhood. At 24, Marc was a distinguished executive; by 30, he had lost it all. Turning to drugs and alcohol to mask the empty feeling he had inside, Marc’s life began spiraling out of control. He was estranged from his family, became homeless, and continued to fall downhill.

Why Legacy Was Founded

Knowing he had to pull himself out of this dark place, Marc visited several treatment centers and finally got back to his feet.  During this period, he was left disappointed with the way the treatment was conducted and finally realized that his place on this planet was to provide a more wholesome approach to rehabilitation.

He opened his treatment facility through a pilot program of just three beds, based out of South Florida. Finding success, Legacy Healing Center quickly grew to support over 155 beds and employ over 200 well looked after staff. The treatment facility also contracts with companies such as American Airlines to provide corporate mental health training.

Scaling Your Business

Marc is a firm believer in getting the most out of your day, to stay multiple steps ahead of everyone else. While most of us are just turning over by 7 am, he has prayed, meditated, completed a workout, and probably his first two calls for the day. He advises to always have a goal greater than yourself, that way you will grind no matter what. For Marc, it is making sure that his work is complete as early as possible, so he can enjoy the rest of the day with his two children.

Marc also advises all business owners to remain humble and really look after their team. Marc remembers a time when he sat in his office as VP of the financial company but was struggling personally. He remembers that those struggles ultimately overpowered his willingness to look “ok” and resulted in him being homeless, estranged from his family, and feeling more lost than ever. It is important for Marc that he checks in with his team, look them in the eye, and take a moment to connect.

Marc is someone who despite losing it all, has been able to recreate his life for the better. We cannot wait to see what the rest of 2020 has in store for his team, so to keep up with him, drop Marc a follow on Instagram
