Johan Styren on the Evolution and Strategic Shifts in the iGaming Industry

Johan Styren, CEO and Co-Founder of Dilanti Media Ltd., recently spoke at SiGMA, providing insights into his career and the shifting landscape of the iGaming industry. Styren, who has played a key role in the development of LeoVegas and Hero Gaming, offered reflections on his professional journey and the broader changes within the sector.

Discussing his time at LeoVegas, Styren recalled the company’s early days. “When we launched LeoVegas in 2012, we were a small team with a €3 million valuation, aiming to create the world’s first mobile casino.” By 2017, the company had grown significantly, with a valuation reaching $1 billion. Styren emphasized that this growth was driven by a focus on mobile gaming, combined with a clear business strategy that attracted investor interest. He also noted that current market conditions differ from those earlier days, with companies now being valued closer to their annual turnover, reflecting a broader industry trend.

After leaving LeoVegas, Styren continued his work in the industry, joining Hero Gaming as a board member. He pointed to the company’s strategy of refining existing concepts, particularly its pay-and-play model, which found success in Sweden. Rather than creating entirely new approaches, Hero Gaming’s focus on improving established ideas helped the company stand out. Styren observed that having a well-defined business strategy plays a crucial role in shaping a company’s market appeal.

Styren also touched on the challenges faced by companies in the affiliate marketing space, particularly those that experience setbacks after being acquired. He attributed this to the loss of key knowledge held by founders, which can hinder growth post-acquisition. At Dilanti Media, Styren’s team has developed a platform aimed at simplifying SEO and operational challenges for affiliate marketing companies, with the goal of maintaining the value of acquired businesses over time.

Through his comments, Styren provided a detailed look at the evolving iGaming landscape, offering perspectives on company growth, mergers and acquisitions, and the role of strategy in staying competitive.

In addition to his leadership roles at LeoVegas and Hero Gaming, Johan Styren’s career reflects a broader engagement with the evolving regulatory frameworks of the iGaming industry. His experience has allowed him to develop a nuanced understanding of how legal shifts affect market opportunities, particularly in regions where legislation is rapidly changing. Styren has also emphasized the importance of responsible iGaming practices, noting that the industry’s future depends on balancing innovation with consumer protection.

As Co-Founder of Dilanti Media, Styren continues to influence the industry by focusing on the affiliate marketing space. His approach has been characterized by efforts to streamline operational efficiencies and reduce complexity, particularly in SEO.
