Dr. Ryan Polselli, a renowned radiologist and entrepreneur, has dedicated his career to advancing the field of breast imaging. Born and raised in coastal Florida near Tampa, Dr. Ryan Polselli’s journey began at the University of South Florida’s Morsani College of Medicine, where he graduated in 2006. He completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Emory University, followed by a prestigious fellowship in Breast Imaging at the Winship Cancer Institute and the Avon Breast Center at Grady Memorial Hospital.

As the former Director of Breast Imaging for Memorial Health University Community Hospital in Georgia, Dr. Ryan Polselli recognized significant gaps in patient care and communication within the breast imaging process. His passion for improving patient experiences led him to found MammoLink, a company focused on connecting patients with high-quality breast imaging care. Dr. Polselli’s mission is to streamline the mammography process while ensuring accessibility and care for women across the United States.

In this interview, Dr. Ryan Polselli discusses his professional journey, the future of radiology, and the challenges he faces in the healthcare industry.

What inspired you to start MammoLink?

The inspiration for MammoLink came from a glaring issue I saw during my time in Breast Imaging. The biggest problem was that many women simply weren’t getting mammograms. Long wait times, poor communication, and the multiple steps involved in scheduling appointments were huge deterrents. I realized the importance of “linking” patients directly to the best mammography care in a more seamless, patient-friendly way. I wanted to make it as easy as possible for women to get the screenings they need by addressing these barriers. This led to the creation of MammoLink, which aims to provide the missing link to accessible, high-quality breast care.

What does a typical day in your life look like?

My day usually starts very early, around 4 or 5 AM. I try to tackle the most critical tasks first thing in the morning. By 7:30 AM, I’m at work, reading hundreds of mammograms, performing biopsies, and communicating with both patients and physicians. I often skip lunch to stay productive and use travel time to answer calls. I always carve out time in the evening to spend with my family before diving back into work. My brain tends to wind down around 8 PM, and I head to bed early to start fresh the next day.

What trends in healthcare excite you the most?

One trend that I’m particularly excited about is cost transparency. For too long, healthcare pricing has been hidden from patients, and this has led to surprise bills and a lack of trust between patients and providers. Cost transparency empowers patients to make informed decisions about their healthcare and fosters a more open and honest relationship with their providers. At MammoLink, we’ve embraced this trend by ensuring that our patients know what to expect upfront. This transparency is transforming healthcare by putting patients back in control of their medical decisions.

What’s the biggest challenge your business faces today?

One of the biggest challenges we face in radiology is declining reimbursements. While costs for medical goods continue to rise, radiology reimbursements have been on a downward trend. This puts a strain on the financial sustainability of practices and forces us to be creative in managing costs without compromising the quality of care. Navigating these financial challenges while maintaining top-tier patient care is an ongoing struggle.

Where do you see the future of radiology in the next 5 to 10 years?

The future of radiology is undoubtedly going to include more artificial intelligence (AI). AI will assist radiologists by quickly analyzing imaging data, allowing us to focus on more complex cases and provide better care. However, while AI will certainly enhance our capabilities, it won’t replace the need for human judgment and the patient-doctor relationship. It will be a tool that helps radiologists work more efficiently and provide more accurate diagnoses.

What advice would you give to someone entering the field of radiology?

My advice is to find your niche. The field of radiology is broad, and there are countless opportunities to specialize. If you identify an area where you can improve patient care, go for it. Sometimes, even a small innovation can have a massive impact on the industry. Passion and persistence are key—don’t be afraid to tackle big problems head-on.

What would you do differently if you could start your career over again?

I wouldn’t change much about my journey. However, if I could give advice to my younger self, it would be to trust my instincts and ignore the naysayers. Throughout my career, I’ve encountered people who doubted my ideas, but I’ve learned that their negativity is often a reflection of their own insecurities. Trust your vision and don’t let anyone tell you that something can’t be done.

What is the most significant career accomplishment you’ve achieved?

Owning my own business and founding MammoLink is by far my most significant career accomplishment. Building a company from the ground up, addressing unmet patient needs, and seeing the real impact it has had on women’s healthcare is incredibly rewarding. It’s not just about business success—it’s about making a difference in the lives of patients.

Do you have any hobbies outside of work?

Absolutely! I’m an avid pilot, and I love spending time in the air whenever I get the chance. Flying gives me a sense of freedom and relaxation that I can’t find anywhere else. I also enjoy spending quality time with my wife and children, especially on outdoor adventures.

What quote has had a significant impact on your life and career?

One of my favorite quotes is: “No one knows what they are doing; the difference is some people do it anyway.” This quote reminds me that we all face uncertainty at times, but taking action, even in the face of doubt, is what leads to success.

Looking Ahead

As Dr. Ryan Polselli continues to lead MammoLink and provide top-tier breast imaging care, his focus remains on improving accessibility and quality in women’s healthcare. With a commitment to cost transparency and patient empowerment, Dr. Ryan Polselli is shaping the future of breast imaging.
