American Screening Corp Lists the Benefits of Retail Drug Testing

Drug testing offers a wide range of benefits for employers looking for ways to improve their retail business, according to Ron Kilgarlin of American Screening Corp. The drug testing technology, available to employers through American Screening Corp., enables them to create a safer and more positive workplace for employers and customers. It’s a win-win scenario for everyone.

  1. Reduced Healthcare Insurance Costs

Unfortunately, in a group insurance plan, just one person who makes poor life choices can raise healthcare insurance costs for everyone on the plan. When retail employers are able to screen employees through drug testing, healthcare insurance can remain manageable.

  1. Fewer Sick Days

With minimum wage increases and other financial burdens of recent years, retail operators have been hard-pressed to cover necessary wages. On top of that, when some employees take advantage of paid sick leave or simply have a second bad habit of calling in sick on a regular basis, this causes a huge dent in the bottom line. It also adds pressure on the quality of employees who show up for work, leading to a negative work environment. Retail drug testing helps to make sure that the candidates who do get hired are the ones who are more likely to work their scheduled shifts.

  1. Less Liability Exposure

Employee drug use or drug use on business premises greatly increases the odds that someone or something is going to get hurt. Even if that doesn’t happen, a retail owner or manager can be charged if illegal substances are used or simply found on the premises. The liability is even greater if the retail business is part of a corporate chain. But all that can be offset or avoided with simple retail drug testing.

  1. Fewer Workplace Accidents

Drug use tends to lead to impaired motor skills, decision-making, and vision. In turn, these compromised senses can quickly lead to workplace accidents, where innocent customers or employees can get hurt. The ramifications of workplace accidents can be so monumental that the very existence of the retail store could be jeopardized. But when there’s a policy of retail drug testing in place, retail stores can reap the benefit of fewer workplace accidents.

Ability to Help

When a retail owner implements routine drug testing, there’s another benefit that may even outweigh all the ones already mentioned. That is, the ability to lend a helping hand to an employee who needs it. Most people who abuse substances don’t choose to do so. The addiction itself is in control. When a retail owner can identify an employee who needs help, they have the ability to help. This could take the form of any number of things, including supplying the information of professionals who might be able to help. This can be a gratifying experience for a retail operator.

Retail drug testing with American Screening Corp. can be a one-off agreement where a retail owner has new candidates tested before hiring them. Or it can be done on a repetitive basis, with random drug tests administered according to a schedule that the retail operator needs. Either way, the benefits of retail drug testing are huge, which is why so many retail stores have already implemented this positive and helpful practice in their business.
