Here are some Reasons why you feel Dizzy after a Roller Coaster Ride

A ride that uses gravity and inertia to send a train of cars and slide it along winding track through centripetal force is what called a roller coaster.

Have you ever cast a deep look on the roller coaster? I assume not. You would be amazed to know why it works without engine. Interesting? Now ponder what the major drive behind it which compels this system to move amazingly fast and furious is.

First, the ride is motored up to the climax, on reaching to the top it gains maximum of its potential energy. Then it will fall, overpowered by the force of gravity turning the previously potential energy into kinetic energy. After that, inertia (states that object in motion, stays in motion) take hold of all the control and move the coaster to loop-the-loops, along curves and all the way. In the end, forces like friction and air resistance slow the roller coaster gradually, ultimately stops it.

Why we feel dizzy after roller coaster ride?

Dr Davidson Hamer, professor of Global Health and Medicine, asserted the facts behind dizzy feelings and nausea people gone through after roller coaster rides.

He explained that our brain receives conflicting messages from motion-sensing organs in our body, including our inner ears and eyes. If our brain senses unusual motion, or when our autonomic nervous system triggered by various sensation, then it results in immediate getting rid of that toxin in the form of sweating, flushing and vomiting.

Vestibular system:

The vestibular system is interconnected sacs and tubes in our inner ear, filled with fluid that can sense any small changes concerning surroundings and help in maintaining balance. After the ride, this inside fluid remains in motion due to inertia. You may find that your eyes try to track sideways a bit in the spin direction because that still-moving fluid is sending incorrect signals to your brain. The type of sensory disconnect between what the eyes see and what your vestibular system is reporting is dizziness.

Blood:

Blood is the second liquid that influences your body. Sudden gravitational transitions are enough to pull much of the blood from the brain and to make a person lightheaded or even can faint.

Stomach residues:

There is certain slime in your stomach, and the amount depends upon time when you took a previous meal. When people are prone to an undulant gravitational force in roller coaster ride, this slurry makes some collisions with gut and inside nerves send message to the brain to expel out stomach’s disturbed food in the form of puke.

Here are some tips to enjoy roller coaster ride without dizziness

Focus your eyes on a fixed point

By focusing eyes on fixed, the non-moving point can help to avoid counter signals from fast-changing surroundings. Another way is to close your eyes to avoid post-ride nausea.

Keep a straight posture

As much as possible, sit with proper form on the roller coaster, keeping your head and neck straight and against the headrest, or as park personnel directs, to avoid injury and help reduce nausea and dizziness. Remember to breathe throughout the ride to keep your body from tensing up. If you feel like you might vomit, please inhale through the mouth and exhale through the nose until the feeling passes.

Suitable eatables before taking a ride

It might sound counter advice to eat something before getting into your ride, but the fact is, empty stomach proved even worse when you are under some nasty gravity effect. So, it is advised to

  • Choose bland foods.
  • Suck on ginger candies before or after taking roller coaster ride.
  • Choose drinks that are low on sugar.
  • Stay away from spicy foods and carbonated drinks.
  • Be sure to stay hydrated throughout the day.

So, this was today all about Roller Coaster ride. You should also follow next time you ride in Roller Coaster, not to feel dizzy after riding.
