An interview with Evan Turk

Evan Turk, [E.W. Turk Esq.] is no stranger to interviews. He’s known for his work with high profile clients making headlines over the years. He has done a number of interviews here at his desk that was once owned by the 6th man to Walk on the Moon. That man a NASA astronaut Edgar Mitchell, was an inspiring and eclectic Palm Beach neighbor. As I enter the office, I take a seat on the opposite side of the desk in a mahogany chair engraved with lions. Neatly stacked are printed resumes’ from Insurance agents looking to take part in his latest venture. Taking the leap from his very visible position as high-profile lawyer. He’s heading back to where it all started in finance and insurance. It seems to suit the palm beacher who’s also known for always wearing a suit

As I settle in, his celebrity wife breezes in, informing him that an article she had been anticipating has just hit the press.  He seems unphased. This is just another day at the office.

“Good or bad?” he asks. “Great,” she says. “Really?” he says, clearly pleased. “She has a way of always seeing the positive,” he says. “She encouraged me to take this career leap and go back to my roots”. “A lot of my time as an asset protection Attorney was spent working with clients who needed unique financial strategies. It was glaring that there was a lack of support for advisors and insurance agents in the marketplace. Far too many were not getting the information and support they needed, to make them successful. What they really needed was collaboration with other professionals. It creates revenue opportunities in tandem with their businesses”

I realize I can check the first question off my list. Which was what made him take the leap to become General Counsel of a Financial Marketing Company.

His new position at 40 Day Wealth seems to be born out of experience with his legal practice, Palm Beach Law Offices. The clients of 40 Day Wealth earn on average $200,000 to $1,200,000+ a year. Some have created their own medical practices, law firms, many are entrepreneurs. Then there are professional athletes receiving athletic endorsements or public figures with a level of celebrity status. Turk explains that they are “People at a stage where they are seeing the fruit of their own labor. They are not immune from lawsuits and most are ticked off about the amount of taxes they must pay. They value family and want their hard-earned savings to be used to add value to their lives, their kin and for charitable causes.” Turk’s obviously passionate about the message and had a hand in the naming of the firm, which he explains is very significant.

What is the biggest hurdle for someone holding an insurance license and how does 40 Day Wealth help them succeed in business?

“A lot of agents drink the kool-aid that served by companies that make promises that benefit their own agendas but simply do not serve to build the individual business of the agent themselves. Our business provides, marketing, training and support to agents. This is something we identified that was lacking in the market.”

Were you an insurance agent yourself?

“When I graduated law school, I worked with one of the top producing agencies. We worked with very affluent clients. This gave a genuine understanding and perspective, as I grew my career and went onto build Palm Beach Law Offices.”

What’s in the name? Why 40 days?

“40 days is an impactful period of time with a lot of different meanings. One that translates directly for our agents and clients but it also has an impact of biblical proportions”.

“In the biblical sense, it is a generic term for a really long time. It appears again and again in both the old and the new testament. It was the amount of days Moses was on Mount Sinai. It was the number of days of rain endured by Noah on the Ark. Later, Jesus’s fast lasted 40 days and he spent 40 days with his disciples. After Mardi Gras comes Ash Wednesday and 40 days of lent. In the terms of the firm 40 days is the average number of tax-only working days our clients save over the course of one-year. It comes to approximately one less year of work for every 9 years working. It is the difference between retiring at age 62 as compared to age 65. Who doesn’t want the option to retire earlier and have more financial freedom, that’s the reality of what we achieve and the name sends our message.”

Before we wrap up our interview. Evan asks, if I’d like to meet the CEO of the firm. Cheryl McCarthy pops-in by Zoom call for the end of our interview. Her cheerful demeanor seems to balance the sometimes serious Turk. She explains that the vision was spurred by the duo’s success working together on cases of Palm Beach Law Offices. She says, she knew early on that their long-standing relationship was bound to grow into something bigger. It seems that vision from the past has been met with 2020 clarity as the new venture in 40 Day Wealth, seems destined for greatness.
