Fact Not Fiction Films have announced that their latest short film “Missing a Note” will be distributed theatrically in cinemas in the U.K. and the U.S.

Following positive reviews from its initial press screenings, and winning Best UK Debut Short at the New Renaissance Film Festival, “Missing a Note” secured theatrical distribution in the U.K. through Everyman Cinemas, where audiences can see the film before “Downton Abbey” this September.

Fact Not Fiction Films, which have produced a number of award-winning films, collaborated with British charity Dementia Matters to develop the storyline, and educate audiences on the impact of the condition, and how it can affect families, relationships and the wider community. Dementia is a syndrome with a number of different causes that impacts brain functioning which can lead to memory loss, movement problems and difficulties carrying out daily activities. There is currently no cure for dementia however, if diagnosed early, people can get treatment to manage it before mental function is impaired.

“Missing a Note” tells the story of a young schoolgirl, Molly, who wants to become a singer, and gets to practice her performance with a retired opera legend, John O’Connell, but little does she know his diminishing memory means she will be in for a few surprises along the way.

As well as being shown in the U.K., the film is also playing in Los Angeles at Landmark’s Nuart Theatre in Santa Monica Blvd from this week onwards. The film will also qualify for submission at the 2020 Academy Awards after having secured a theatrical distribution deal in the U.S.

The short film is just the latest release from production company Fact Not Fiction Films after their recently completed “Everybody Flies” documentary exposing air contaminants in aircraft was announced – and will be premiering in London at the Raindance Film Festival later this month.

Filmmaker Beth Moran wrote and directed “Missing a Note” which features Game of Thrones star Ian McElhinney, Elaine Paige, Darcy Jacobs and Angela Dixon with Tristan Loraine producing.
