Building a Consumer-First Firm in a High-Complaint Industry – The Entrepreneurship Story Behind Solar Equity Solutions

Entrepreneurial endeavors that succeed often do so because they solve an urgent consumer pain point. For Solar Equity Solutions, that pain point is monthly solar contracts that don’t deliver what they promised.

“Solar Equity Solutions started with the goal of helping homeowners better understand their solar contracts,” explains Josie Garcia, COO and VP of Client Services at Solar Equity Solutions. “But we quickly realized that people were being misled or flat-out lied to by the people presenting the contracts. Based on bad information, consumers were signing contracts that left them stuck not only with high energy bills but also with ongoing payments for a solar energy system.”

At first, the team behind Solar Equity Solutions believed the incidents involving misrepresentation and fraud were isolated. But they soon realized the problem was widespread, with bad contracts being signed at an alarming rate. The calls they were getting from homeowners with horror stories about their solar energy journey were coming from different states, named different installers, and involved different financial lenders. And the documents they were given to review showed misleading projections, buried disclosures, altered loan terms, and sales practices aimed at making a quick sale rather than clearly explaining to homeowners what they were getting into.

“Consumers were contacting us after they realized they were in a big hole they don’t know how to get out of,” Garcia shares. “And we realized we had the experience and expertise not only to help homeowners better understand their contracts but also to advocate for relief on their behalf. That was when the idea for Solar Equity Solutions was born.”

Solar Equity Solutions is focused on serving consumers facing faulty solar contracts

Entrepreneurial success also often requires focus. For Solar Equity Solutions, the focus is consumers. The company does not represent installers or lenders. And it does not sell solar systems.

“Our focus is helping families unwind, challenge, and escape solar agreements that involve deception, omission, or misrepresentation,” Garcia explains. “We identify where the process failed the homeowner. Then our team of legal professionals, financial experts, and compliance specialists steps in to identify the lawful options that may exist to pursue correction, relief, or cancellation.”

By focusing strictly on the consumer side of the equation, Solar Equity Solutions has been able to emerge as a pioneer in a relatively new market. The company is one of the first created to address the confusion homeowners experience when engaging with the solar energy market and to provide a path for homeowners to escape their unfair solar deals.

“There are so many reasons solar owners seek us out,” Garcia says. “Some are not seeing savings like they were promised in their contract. Others were left with a system that is not working. And some sought help from the company that sold the system only to find it no longer exists. Whatever the case, our understanding of contract law and solar sales tactics helps us to know what to look for and how to move forward in a way that benefits the homeowner.”

As experts in solar contracts, Solar Equity Solutions has a deep understanding of the wide variety of remedies that can be used to help consumers. Depending on the case, it may help a consumer to cancel a solar contract, terminate a lease agreement, negotiate a settlement, obtain credit protection and dispute assistance, or gather funds eligible to be returned.

Solar Equity Solutions became a solar exit company to help consumers

Solar Equity Solution’s roots are in solar advocacy and consumer education. Its founders believed renewable energy would be a powerful environmental force if implemented ethically and transparently. Before it discovered the problems consumers were facing with solar contracts, it served its clientele by providing information on how solar financing works, how contracts should be structured, and what questions must be answered before a long-term agreement is signed.

Today, however, it serves consumers as a solar exit company, providing homeowners with real support and a path forward. Solar Equity Solutions is an advocate for those who didn’t receive the clarity, fairness, or informed consent they should have been given before entering any agreement that could affect their home and financial future.

“We did not become a solar exit company because we stopped believing in renewable energy,” Garcia says. “We became a solar exit company because too many homeowners were harmed in an industry that, in many cases, prioritized speed and profit over honesty and transparency. Consumers needed someone to stand in their corner when the system failed, so we stepped up to be that someone.”

Solar Equity Solutions is on a mission to end solar fraud while helping homeowners regain control from solar contracts they were misled into signing. Since launching in 2025, it has helped nearly 10,000 homeowners.
