Charles Winn representative described it as an excellent result, the sale saw global bidders across five continents. The auction also achieved a 20% increase in unique visitors, compared to previous events.
Coming in top was a case of Petrus 1990 which reached $40,000. Californian wines including Harlan Estate, Promontory, Opus One, Insignia, Dominus, Ridge, Bond Araujo and Spotteswoode were also some of the most popular items on the day.
A case of Château Lafite 2002 also garnered a lot of attention, selling for $7,500. Champagne and whiskies were among some of the most popular items – a Macallan 31-year-old 1970 even sold for $13,750. A Charles Winn spokesperson said achieving these sales results does wonders for the market.
Speaking about the online auction, Christie’s Head of Wine said: “This sale received an unprecedented number of unique visitors from across the world. It’s a testament to our strong client relationships and marketing initiatives.”
He continued that given the current climate, this sale is “an excellent result showing the strength of detailed curation and strong market knowledge.” In short, these results indicate the resilience and strength of the industry.
