Running Wild Press is a female-founded independent press that publishes cross-genre stories across paperback, hardback, ebook, and audiobook. Founded by Lisa Diane Kastner, who has twenty years experience in creative writing and over a decade in media and entertainment, Lisa realized that many amazing stories were unlikely to see the light of the day because they didn’t fit into the traditional structures and themes as defined by larger publishers. While others looked away, Lisa saw potential. She would often talk about the problem with her husband, who encouraged her instead to start her own press.

“I swear he brought it up on our first date,” said Lisa. “My husband’s a musician and comes from an indie punk and Jazz background so to him it was only logical to go ahead and start our own press.”

It took a while to convince her, but Lisa eventually agreed and they haven’t looked back.

The result is Running Wild Press. Since 2016, they have published various stories, including a brain cancer survivor’s story, entitled “Glue Gone Wild” by Suzanne Sample as well as “Dark Corners” by Reuben “Tihi” Hayslett. Both were named among the Best Books of 2019 by Kirkus Reviews. Meanwhile, Terence Hawkins’ “Turing’s Graveyard” was named among the Best Books of 2020. These results as well as multiple starred reviews, Amazon bestsellers, and being named to favorite lists by bloggers proved her husband’s faith to be well worth it, not to mention Lisa’s belief in these fantastic stories and their authors.

“These results prove that eager fans have been waiting for these fantastic stories,” said Lisa. “We just needed to get them into readers’ hands.”

Since the creation of Running Wild Press, Lisa has also provided a platform for short story and novella writers who write good quality work. They publish annual anthologies with no theme and instead focus on great narratives. The press owes its success to the Running Wild team’s outstanding experience in the industry. As a nod to the organization’s success, Lisa has been nominated for the Forbes Next 1000, which spotlights diverse entrepreneurs who are redefining business amid unprecedented uncertainty.

Recently, Running Wild, LLC launched a new imprint RIZE, which publishes great genre stories written by people of color. RIZE was created to entertain readers  with stories they could relate to and not some stereotype. Lisa was aware that there is very little diversity in publishing as minority writers are rarely celebrated.

Lisa foresees growth for Running Wild Press as she aims to publish twice as many books as they do now. The organization strives to be the number one independent publisher in the world with their stories available in books and ebooks, as well as adaptations on film, TV, and digital shorts.
