If Your Car Needs Repairs, Can You Still Sell It?

You’ve been looking at the latest cars on the market. Unlike yours, modern cars are efficient, safe, and full of useful technology. The best part is that they are new and pristine. Your car is beaten up and always in need of a new repair.

Or, maybe you got into an accident and haven’t gotten around to fixing it. Maybe you don’t want to waste money trying to get it back into shape when what you really want is a completely different car.

Is Boeing’s Market share under threat?

Because most drivers looking for a used car would prefer one that is intact with few miles on it that runs perfectly, you might not think that you can sell your junk car. But is this true? Continue reading below to learn about your options for selling a car that needs repairs.

What Is A Damaged Car Worth?

Your damaged car does not have the same value as a similar car that doesn’t need repairs. That’s just a fact that you must accept. Depending on the severity of damage or the number of repairs needed, your car may only have 25 percent of its value remaining. As a result, you might think that there is no way you could make any money off selling it.

However, that’s not entirely true. Cars in need of repair still have use and value, even if the value of a vehicle is not as high as it was as when you first bought it.

Before giving up on your car, you can conduct some research on its value. However, this will have to be a rough estimate because it’s difficult to calculate the value of a damaged car without special calculators. Websites like Kelley Blue Book can help you determine the value of your car by analyzing its year, make, model, mileage, and other details.

Where Can I Sell My Less-Than-Perfect Car?

Dealerships

Dealerships are one place that you can sell your damaged car. Most accept used cars even if they need repairs.

But you must be aware that dealerships often greatly undervalue vehicles. Even if you try to sell a barely used car, the sales agent will low-ball you. You will have to haggle and have pricing research prepared if you want to secure a higher price for your car.

Junkyards

A junkyard is another place that you can try selling a damaged car. Unlike other buyers though, a junk car removal service like a junkyard do not evaluate a car’s worth as a whole. Rather, they focus on the types and amount of metals that are present.

Junkyards value cars by their weight. More specifically, the weight of its metals. However, the demand for metals and prices fluctuate often so you might get a different quote on a different day.

Selling a car the needs repairs to a junkyard can be a fast and easy process, but you won’t be getting everything that your car is worth. This is because junkyards do not take into account the other components of your car that could have value such as leather seats or a new console. As a result, you might be missing out on hundreds of dollars in profits.

Online

The internet is one of the best resources for selling an imperfect vehicle. Not only are there thousands of buyers looking for a car just like yours but there are also tons of websites that specialize in buying and selling damaged cars.

Digital marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace, eBay, and Craigslist make it easy to find buyers who want a beat-up car. You can also easily compare offers instead of having to meet up with numerous strangers and settle on an offer.

Additionally, digital junk car buyers make the process easy if you choose to sell to them. They can give you a fair quote and provide additional assistance that you might not have when selling by yourself.

Should You Fix It Before Selling?

This is a tricky question. Fixing a car before selling it may or may not result in a big increase in its value. Numerous factors determine a car’s worth, whether it’s damaged or not.

Many drivers believe that paying for certain repairs such as a new paint job or cracked window replacement will persuade buyers to pay a higher price for the vehicle. They think that they will get a full return on the money they put into repairs. Unfortunately, that’s not how car values work especially for cars that have been in accidents.

Moreover, if you want to sell your car to a junkyard, there really won’t be any point in trying to fix it since it will be crushed anyway. Junkyards are only interested in the usable metal and are not concerned if the components function.
