How does an automated custom box packaging machine work? A look behind the scenes

Curious about how automated packaging machines work to create the perfect box for your orders? There are several automated solutions that support a variety of industries, from e-commerce to fulfillment environments. These machines ensure that every order is packaged perfectly, without the need for void fill. The process is fast, efficient, and ensures an optimal customer experience. Let’s walk you through the process step by step!

Step 1: Order entry

It all starts when the operator scans the order. Once the order barcode is scanned, the operator places the order, whether it is a single item or multiple different products, onto the infeed conveyor. No need to worry about the shape or texture of the products, the machine can handle it all. Just press the button and the machine is ready to go!

Step 2: Scan the right size

The next step is crucial: measuring the products. A 3D scanner measures the length, height, and width of the order, so that the perfect box is created. This ensures that the packaging has exactly the right dimensions and prevents unnecessary empty space in the box. No waste, just a perfect fit for your products.

Step 3: Making the boxes

Now the real work begins: making the box. The corrugated cardboard is cut to size and creased, and the machine folds the box around the order in one seamless process. The beauty of this system is that no WMS (Warehouse Management System) data is required. Everything happens automatically and in real-time, allowing your orders to be packed quickly and efficiently.

Step 4: Seal the box

Once the box is folded around the order, it is securely sealed. This is done by means of tape at the CVP Impack or glue at the CVP Everest. Both systems ensure that the box is safe for transport, but also easy to open for the end customer. In addition, the boxes are designed in such a way that they can be reused for returns. Sustainable and customer-friendly! Step 5: Quality: Weighing and Labeling

Each box is weighed on the in-line scale. This ensures accurate weight measurements, which not only optimizes packaging but also helps refine your shipping rate. The weight data is sent to the WMS, after which a shipping label is applied. This label meets the carrier’s requirements, ensuring your order can travel smoothly to your customer.

Step 6: Personalized printing

Want to give your customers something extra? There is the option to personalize the box with custom messages, logos or branding. This is done in high resolution with fast-drying ink, available in black or color. It is an easy way to add a personal touch to your brand and give your customers an extra special experience.

With these automated packing machines, you not only get a fast and efficient process, but also the guarantee that your orders are perfectly packed, sized and shipped with the correct dimensions and weights. This not only saves time and costs, but also increases customer satisfaction, which ultimately leads to more repeat purchases and improved customer relations.
