From Teaching to Entrepreneurship: How Elliot Phillips is Empowering Teachers to Build Online Businesses

Elliot Phillips has always been a champion for education. As a PE teacher in the UK, he spent years pouring his heart and soul into helping students succeed, driven by an unwavering belief in the transformative power of learning.

While Elliot found deep fulfillment from teaching, he couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that the traditional education system was holding both teachers and students back from reaching their full potential.

“Teachers are some of the most talented, passionate individuals you’ll ever meet,” Elliot reflects. “They have an incredible ability to inspire, motivate, and shape the next generation. But the reality is, the system often constrains their impact and prevents them from truly thriving.”

A Calling to Support Fellow Educators

After several years as a teacher, Elliot reached a crossroads. He knew he needed to make a change, but the thought of leaving teaching behind filled him with a sense of guilt and uncertainty.

“I loved teaching, but I also knew I had so much more to offer,” Elliot explains. “I just couldn’t shake the feeling that I was meant for something bigger – to use my experience and expertise to support my fellow educators in an even more impactful way.”

It was a chance conversation with a mentor that finally provided the clarity Elliot had been seeking. “He asked me a simple question: ‘Why aren’t you helping other teachers? That’s your expertise,'” Elliot recalls. “As soon as he said that, it was like a lightbulb went off. I knew that was my true calling.”

Empowering Teachers as Entrepreneurs

Fueled by a newfound sense of purpose, Elliot set out to build a company that would transform the way teachers educate the world. In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he launched The Teacher Project.

The company’s flagship offering, the Group Launch Accelerator program, is designed to help teachers harness their expertise and build thriving online businesses. Through a combination of training, coaching, and community support, the program equips educators with the tools and strategies they need to replace their traditional teaching salaries and achieve unprecedented levels of impact and freedom.

Over the past four years, The Teacher Project has helped over 3,000 teachers start their own online teaching ventures. Many have been able to replace their full-time teaching salaries in a matter of months, going on to serve thousands of students across the globe.

“The results we’ve seen have been nothing short of incredible,” Elliot shares. “Teachers who were barely scraping by in the classroom are now earning six-figures, working with students from all around the world, and having a bigger impact than they ever could have imagined. It’s been life-changing for them.”

One such success story is Quanita Joseph, a former classroom teacher who transformed her career through the Group Launch Accelerator program.

“I was working 60-70 hours per week as a teacher, spending countless unpaid hours as a team lead, coaching new teachers, and creating high-impact lessons for my district,” Quanita recalls. “Despite my dedication, I was struggling to make ends meet and had to work as a food delivery driver part-time just to get by.”

Taking a leap of faith, Quanita left the classroom and fully committed to building her own business through The Teacher Project’s program. The results were transformative. She developed a program so effective that parents were begging to enroll their children.

Today, Quanita runs a six-figure tutoring business with students across 40+ states and maintains a waiting list. She employs some of the top teachers in the country and partners with schools in Texas to train their teachers and provide on-campus tutors.

Expanding Impact Through Coaching and Community

As The Teacher Project continues to grow, Elliot remains laser-focused on his mission of transforming the way teachers educate the world. He’s particularly excited about the company’s plans to expand its coaching and community offerings, providing even more support to the growing network of teacher-entrepreneurs it has helped create.

“Our ultimate goal is to build a global movement of empowered, entrepreneurial teachers,” Elliot declares. “We want to show the world that there’s a better way to educate – one that values teachers, gives them the resources they need to thrive, and ultimately delivers a higher-quality learning experience for students.”

It’s an ambitious vision, to be sure. But for Elliot, it’s a personal crusade, fueled by his own experiences and a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of education.

“Teachers have the ability to change the world,” he says. “We just have to give them the tools and support to unlock that potential. That’s what drives me every single day.”

Elliot’s passion for supporting his fellow educators is palpable, and it’s a quality that has inspired countless teachers to take the leap into entrepreneurship. Whether it’s through the Group Launch Accelerator program or the growing community The Teacher Project has built, Elliot is steadfast in his commitment to empowering teachers to reach new heights.

As The Teacher Project continues to expand its reach and impact, Elliot remains humble and grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of educators around the world.

“I’m just honored to be in a position to support my fellow teachers,” he says. “They’re the backbone of our society, and they deserve every opportunity to maximize their potential. That’s what gets me out of bed every morning, and it’s what will continue to fuel this movement for years to come.”
