Carlos Moyano Sepulveda: Harnessing the American Dream

Many immigrant stories can inspire, especially in the business world. Tales of people who uproot entire families to make a go of it in the United States — starting businesses and creating legacies. Carlos Moyano Sepulveda wanted to craft one of those stories.

The founder of J&C Liquidator, LCC, Sepulveda has battled hurdles such as language barriers and growing up in poverty. Today, he is making his way in the United States — Utah, to be exact — and creating an online outlet that offers big discounts on a wide range of products.

Making his way to America

Sepulveda grew up in poverty, watching his mother struggle, at times not even able to provide Christmas presents. From an early age, he realized that he wanted to rise above his station in life and achieve greater success.

“I knew I wanted to be somebody important someday,” Sepulveda explains. He started small, selling items on the street in Chile before joining the Chilean army and working as an aviation mechanic, but it didn’t fulfill him as a person with entrepreneurial aspirations.

Sepulveda always dreamed of traveling to the United States. Like many who came before him, he realized his dream by entering the country as a student and eventually built up an impressive academic resume, both from his home country of Chile and his adopted home of Utah. He earned a degree in Engineering, a Master’s in Industrial Engineering, and a degree in Operations Management.

Once Sepulveda arrived in the US, he took English classes at Utah Valley University to prepare for his entrepreneurial plans. “One of the biggest challenges I had was the new language,” he says. “Being an entrepreneur is difficult, especially with the language barriers you have to overcome when you arrive in a new country.”

However, Sepulveda had his eye on the ultimate goal: independently running his own company.

Bringing savings

Sepulveda founded J&C Liquidator, LLC, as a way to bring a variety of retail items to consumers at a discounted price. The retail product resale and export business aims to bring in-demand products to primarily South American markets at affordable prices.

Over his years of in-depth study in supply chain management and industrial management, Sepulveda has been able to leverage his knowledge for supply chain optimization. His company offers cost-effective solutions and helps others create legacies and build careers, just like he did. “We are creating jobs in economically distressed areas of Utah,” he explains.

J&C Liquidator offers everything, from furniture and phones to clothing and electronics. Many of the items are available at up to 50 percent off the retail price or more. For example, a Bugatti 9.0 Electric Scooter — which typically retails for $1,199.00 — is sold for $599.00. The company is constantly adding new items, and Suepulveda hopes to take it to even greater heights. “We want to be a recognized brand, such as Ross or Burlington,” he says, referencing well-known discount stores.

With J&C Liquidator, Sepulveda and his team are working hard to cater to shoppers’ evolving needs and revitalize his adopted community in Utah. He is hopeful that he will soon be able to delegate many of his responsibilities within his company so that he can continue to direct the company’s strategic expansion across the United States.

“My innovation and growth doesn’t stop,” says Sepulveda. “I hope that by sharing this vision of growth and my story, I can help others who want to become entrepreneurs and business leaders as well.”
