Misconceptions About Patient Engagement Software

You are thinking about adding patient engagement software to how you run your practice. But there is still some uncertainty. Are you falling prey to some misconceptions about how this will work for you?

Patients Won’t Talk To Bots

This was a fear early on in its implementation, but as time has gone by and more businesses are using this, it shows that people are willing to discuss what their medical issue is. It can also help set things up so that when the patient does come to see you, you have an idea of what your patient is there to see you about. Both of you can save a lot of time by the use of the software.

It’s Too Generic

You might be afraid that the bots/software won’t be able to cover a broad range of topics. That is not true – they can research a much wider range of medical topics faster than a human could. That way, when either a current or prospective patient contacts you via this software, they can get a potential crucial bit of information to bring to their appointment with you.

Bots Can’t Pick Up Nuance

While it’s not going to pass the Turing Test, the software will be able to collect enough information … and this is important … not bring bias into the equation. As a doctor or another medical professional, your mind might go in one direction with something, but the software might spot another trend and provide guidance.

It’s Hard to Get Insight

This is just not true – the more data that is collected each time the patient uses the software, there is more information that can be used to help determine the issue that the patient is facing. Also, this allows the patient to take more control and not feel like they are just meekly talking to the doctor. This can make for a much better way of conversing between doctor and patient.

Older Patients Won’t Like Automation

There was a time when it might have been more difficult to get older people to adapt to using technology. While there might be some stubborn holdovers, more and more have brought this technology into their lives. The sight of senior citizens using smartphones is a common one. So it makes sense that they would adapt to the software.

You Won’t Get a Return on The Price

Some might fear that you will sink money into this software and not get an appreciable return in terms of either productivity or from getting an influx of new patients. The chances of technology regressing are extremely low. So consider this a worthwhile investment.

These are just some of the misconceptions that linger about patient engagement software. It really is just a matter of doing research and ensuring that this is a fit for you. As we keep moving further and further into the 2020s and beyond, patient engagement software will be an integral part of how you communicate with your patients. It’s all about how you use it – just ensure that there will be human interaction following the initial use of the software. Then it will be smooth for you.
