New Technology To Make U.S. Roads Safer

Between 1913 and 2019, there was a 96% improvement in car safety. Every year, driving becomes less and less dangerous. This is thanks, in no small part, to the incredible progress made in car technology. These tech gadgets and features are not only helping people to stay connected while they’re on the move, but they’re also increasing safety for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. Here are the four latest technological advancements that will make US roads safer in 2022.

Infrared Animal Detection

One of the most dangerous obstacles drivers face is the existence of wild animals. In the USA, deer alone are involved in over 1.5 million car accidents. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to keep animals completely away from all roads. However, new technology is emerging that can help drivers detect and ultimately avoid these creatures. Infrared cameras in new Aldis, Fords, and Volvos are capable of spotting animals before a human can. When they do, they’ll automatically and safely apply the brakes, keeping both humans and animals alive and well.

Augmented Reality Windshield

Augmented reality (AR) is already a commonly-used technology. For instance, in 2020, a third of internet users had already used AR while shopping online. However, most cars have yet to be upgraded with this tech development. Notable exceptions include the Kia EV6 and Audi Q4 e-Tron. Both of these vehicles will come with AR windshields when they go on sale later in 2022. This will provide data in real-time on fuel, speed, and tire pressure. If an accident does occur, the driver will be able to consult a car accident attorney and inform them of the information shown on their windshield to determine how the accident occurred, and they can use the info as evidence when putting together a lawsuit.

Body-Monitoring Sensors

Health technology has experienced a surge in the last few years, and 56% of Americans now own wearable technology. This can instantly measure heart rate, blood pressure, sleep, and a number of other health indicators, alerting the user where they can make improvements. However, what if your car can automatically monitor your health? If a condition suddenly arises while you’re at the wheel, the consequences can be serious– unless you’re given a heads up about your health ahead of time. Manufacturers like Lexus and Ford have begun designing technology that will monitor your cardiovascular system so that it can alert you of a problem before it’s too late.

Biometric Unlocking and Remote Shutdown

Biometrics are used in many areas of life, from passport control to unlocking a smartphone. By scanning your face or fingerprints, technology is incredibly accurate at identifying who you are. Now, a number of cars, including new Volkswagens, are utilizing this technology. With biometric access, only you can enter your car, making car theft a thing of the past. This makes the roads safer because car thieves tend to drive more dangerously than car owners. Furthermore, if dangerous driving is detected, remote shutdown can be used to shut off the engine before anyone gets hurt.

With these four new technologies, US roads will be safer than ever. Drivers will take to the roads with the confidence that they’re safe and protected. When shopping for a new car, drivers should make sure to check its safety technology credentials. They should opt for a car with animal detection, AR windshields, health monitoring, and biometric access. These will offer a safe and stress-free driving experience.
