ORLANDO, Florida – May 18, 2021: According to Dargan Watts of the Birchmore Group, a corporate event producer in Orlando, Florida in March of 2020 the cancellations of convention and special events were overwhelming. As the pandemic spread and safety became a concern, our industry came to a grinding halt, according to Watts.

With scenic pieces being constructed, talent booked, hotel rooms and travel booked and thousands of labor hours into planning events Covid pulled the rug out from under us, Watts continued.

As the entire event and travel sector suffered, teams came together to create positive ways to entertain and remain resilient from online concerts to socially distant events. Coming up with ways that our technicians and talent could remain safe as well as an audience has been the key during Covid.

The State of Florida tourism officials are moving into final phases opening and relaxing policies to welcome conventions and trade shows back into the state. According to Watts, with other states opening as well, we are receiving calls, emails, and RFPs for events this Fall and Sales Kickoffs in 2022.

As companies are moving back into office space and realizing their need to rebuild with human socialization and team building activities; the meetings and convention markets are starting to become alive again, Dargan Watts said.

As you look at the local Theme Park attendance increasing, we look like we are on a healthy recover phase with more people getting vaccinated. This can only help our convention and event sector as we all want to get back to full speed. We want to get back to hearing claps, chants and laugher in ballrooms and with the phones ringing its encouraging news, according to Watts.
