Tips On How To Choose The Right Perfume

Myriads of perfumes are there. Many of the perfumes smell similar which makes it difficult for a person to choose the best among them.  Finding the right perfume for the right occasion is a tough task. The maximum information that can be gathered from a fragrance shop about a fragrance is the look of a fragrance bottle or the name on it, but that is not enough information to buy the correct perfume.

All a person is left with is sniffing the perfumes with an unhelpful sales person at hand who has no idea what will suit the buyer.

The perfume one wears defines him/her. Perfume is a major part of one’s personality which is why it is necessary to select the right perfume. There are some easy tips that can help one figure out which perfume suits him/her:

Explore perfumes on the internet

The first step towards finding the right perfume is to list out the smells that interest a person on a daily basis. Once those perfumes are listed, one can look for similar smells on internet in the same category. There are some specific sites that can be helpful such as, Basenotes.com and Fragrantica.com. On these sites one can find smells that are similar to that of the daily smells that one likes. After you have shortlisted a few, check some of the best perfumes reviews on the internet to finally make your pick from the lot.

The CEO and cofounder of Hawthorne, Brian Jeong said, “If you are brand-new to fragrances, think about the other distinctive smells that you enjoy in your life, especially ones in products you use on your body. The coconut shampoo at your gym? Your fresh and green body wash? The soft and mineral smell of your clothes after laundry? Even the tobacco in the cigarette that you smoke? These can all serve as a great starting point to finding your ideal scent. Search for fragrances with those notes like the ones you love in your other products.”

One should always choose fragrances according to the mood and the environment of an occasion or event. Some occasions demand light perfumes and some demand something strong.

Use test samples first

Before deciding on which perfume to buy, a test sample of that perfume should be used. When a perfume is used on warm places like pulses or elbows, the real smell of the perfume blossoms. It is advisable to always use perfumes on skin when trying it for the first time, that way the perfume gets mixed up with the wearer’s chemistry which as a result reveals the true smell of the perfume.

One should always take some time before determining which perfume to buy because it takes 15-30 minutes before the true smell of a fragrance comes out.

Find out what suits you the most

A person buys a perfume based on many factors. One should always find out what they want from a perfume. For example the longevity of the perfume, whether it is synthetic or natural, does the perfume suit the skin etc. It is not necessarily true that natural perfumes are better than synthetic ones. So one should always check which one goes well with them. Attention should also be given to the price of the perfume.
