Modern Witchcraft Shop Shatters Society’s Prejudices Against the Ancient Practice

For hundreds of years, witchcraft has been tied to a lot of misconceptions. Many people know about the ancient practice only through Hollywood’s overblown imagery presented in films like Harry Potter or perhaps from an episode of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. MydnytBlu aims to shatter the prejudices against witchcraft and pagan practices and reveal what they are indeed about.

The shop is run by three generations of women, starting with Alice Cook-Nelson, a 54-year-old grandmother of two from Westminster, Colorado. She is joined by her 31-year-old daughter Jennifer, and eight-year-old granddaughter Olivia. Together, they perfectly represent the faces of the Triple Moon Goddess: Maiden, Mother, and Crone.

Initially, the shop was built when Alice and her husband, Matthew, had to answer one significant question: “What shall we do with the rest of our lives now that the kids are grown?” It may seem typical for anyone to ask such a question. The question led them to an exciting turn of events because the women in their family have always been fascinated with superstition, folklore, myths, and witchcraft.

MydnytBlu was established to become a safe place for anyone who wants to learn, experiment, and explore ancient witchcraft practices without fear of judgment or criticism. For many years, witchcraft has been considered evil, mainly due to the prominence of Christianity. “Witchcraft is an ancient practice of gathering, concentrating, and re-directing the energies that are already around us, in everything, and focusing that energy to manifest your will in your own life,” said Alice.

MydnytBlu offers handmade crafts that are commonly needed for rituals and gatherings, things that Alice has been making for her own use for so many years. Today, she is delighted to share her knowledge and skills with anyone interested in the practice.

The shop began as a small business in her home in 2019. After sharing some of her creations on social media, it created waves among many people because similar products are hard to find and are often expensive. But Alice made them accessible and affordable. The shop carries unique items such as athames, spell jars, wands, crystals, jewelry, and so much more.

Soon enough, people were asking Alice to make custom tools and source out exotic ingredients for them. And orders were escalating. Since the items Alice uses are ethically sourced, meticulously researched, and fully authentic, she became overwhelmed. But thankfully, her family jumped in and helped cope with the surging demands for their products. Later on, Alice introduced basic starter kits for those who are newly exposed to the craft.

Aside from its shop and online platform, MydnytBlu also has a traveling vardo-themed booth booked for all the weekends between March and August 2020 for various pagan festivals and celebrations around the country. However, the COVID-19 pandemic canceled such events. “We are hoping that 2021 brings new opportunities for travel and sharing in celebrations all around the Country,” Alice said.

MydnytBlu wants to be a companion for anyone who wants to become active in bettering their lives and becoming closer to their own self, nature, and the universe in its entirety.
