Many young girls aspire to be models when they grow up. To represent what is accepted as beautiful, glamorous, influential, and how an independent woman carries herself is attractive to young girls who grow up watching fashion magazines, movies, and following social media platforms. For rising model Barbara Boller, however, it was her own mother who inspired her to pursue modeling as a career even if she was not as confident about her physique at the beginning.

Barbara always had striking features growing up that even one of her aunts told her she would one day become a top model. The five-foot-seven-inches Brazilian, on the other hand, did not consider herself a model material due to her height. She was skinny as a young girl, but she always kept it to herself. Despite her own misgivings about her qualifications, deep inside, she still aspired to become a successful model. She would try on her mother’s clothes and put on makeup when no one was looking and pretend she was modeling in front of the mirror.

“I was shy and introverted. Being a model helped me a lot with that because I had to get out of the shell and give my best. You need to love yourself to be a good model. You need to learn how to play roles and you get to be something different every time. It’s never boring and I love it,” Barbara shares.

The decision to pursue a modeling career changed her life for the better. While the industry has its own challenges, Barbara is determined to overcome the obstacles to achieve her dream. Despite her good looks and long legs, Barbara explains that she sometimes still finds herself comparing her physique to other girls.

Staying on top of one’s game, she recounts, requires a positive attitude and a strong mental preparation. Even as a skinny woman, she has been called fat several times while in the modeling industry. These kinds of remarks forced her to resort to drastic measures in order to meet the industry standards, such as taking only coffee for a whole day to reduce her food intake.

Barbara holds a Master’s Degree in International Marketing and Consumer Behavior from one of the best business schools in Brazil. She also holds a specialist degree in Branding and Globalization from McGill University.

Barbara wants to emphasize that she is not just a pretty face; she is also smart and hardworking. Besides her work as a model, she also runs a business and is currently developing her own label. With her degrees and her ability to speak four languages (Portuguese, Spanish, English, and basic French), she proves that she has what it takes to succeed in whatever endeavor she pursues.

Keeping a positive attitude, working hard, and believing in herself are things that Barbara Boller is bent on doing to become productive as a model and businesswoman. She wants to serve as an inspiration to other women that they can also achieve their dreams by choosing to be strong and focused on the goal.
