Musicians play a tremendous part in our lives as one of the most prominent trailblazers of influence regardless if we realize it consciously or not. The messages behind each artist’s craft have a direct impact on every listener, and this is more apparent in the younger generation as the currently popular music reflects today’s culture.

In the present time, culture moves and changes almost by the second, and it is reflected in the styles and genres of music that continue to evolve. Even new musical styles are emerging in the industry as more independent artists find means to get their music out there. One of the artists who has found his footing in the music industry is Calvin Ross, an R&B singer and producer who is quickly ascending the ranks in the business.

Calvin Ross has been making music since he was 17, right after moving back home to Tennessee after a six-year stay in Detroit. He grew up in Tennessee, where he considered himself surrounded by the norm of crime and violence, but little did Calvin know a successful life and career in music was ahead of him. Young and without equipment of his own to work with, he bought a friend’s set of equipment for a hundred dollars and started making beats.

He first worked on music for Fruity Loops, and after some time, gained mastery in the process of music production and took advantage of his natural talents. Already armed with a captivating and naturally eminent voice, he transitioned smoothly to the next step, expanding his know-how on recording and mixing.

After winning a showcase at P. Diddy’s studio, Daddy’s House, Calvin had the golden opportunity to meet with A&R for Def Jam Recordings, who was incredibly impressed with his talents. After that encounter, he started taking steps to prove he was more serious about his music career than ever.

The young artist was also given the SCM Award for the Bobby Womack R&B Artist of the Year in 2019. The prestigious award is given to give honor to the memory of the late American record producer, singer, and songwriter, Robert Dwayne Womack. The award affirms that, indeed, Ross is making a significant impact on his listeners.

For every track he records, Calvin makes sure he is satisfied with the end result before dropping an album or a single. He applies this robust approach of meticulously fine-tuning the production to perfect each project before release.

Calvin Ross is creating music for the Urban R&B niche, taking inspiration from artists like Michael Jackson, Usher, Ginuwine, and R. Kelly. He explains, “The feeling I get when someone genuinely tells me they like my music is the best feeling in the world.” And as for his arrangement style, he adds, “I let the instrumentals talk to me and tell me what to say.”

In 2016, Calvin Ross unveiled a single alongside Jackson City’s veteran rapper Stack Plenty, and he has since dropped the singles, Bad Fetish, Lost Love, and Where I Come From. He also released a EP with fellow Tennessee artist 2c’s, Erotica in 2018. The songs on Erotica, his biggest compilation of tracks so far, are Bank, Winner, Face Down, and DIOAS. And since launching his career in music, he has opened for artists in the likes of Avant, Urban Mystic, Snootie Wild, YFN Lucci, Bando Jonez, Yung Bleu.

Calvin has become the embodiment of culture, music, and experience merging together. Each track he has released so far is a manifestation of how he continues to evolve as a person and cultivate his craft as an artist. Follow Calvin Ross on his journey as he continues to chase his dreams of having his music reach No. 1 on the Billboard charts.
