To some artists and musicians, having the privilege of performing in the world’s most prestigious stages remains a dream. Not everyone has got what it takes to stand out from the crowd at an early age and be noticed by music producers. One has to be special enough to be worthy of the spotlight.

But for New Orleans’ homegrown trombonist and singer, Jeffery Miller, the world easily became his oyster, and he has captured the hearts of many jazz lovers all over the world. Jeffery was raised and well-loved by his maternal grandparents. It was under their roof that young Jeffery discovered his love and passion for music.

He has dedicated countless hours to hone his skills, and soon it paid off. Jeffery was only a normal kid in high school when jazz vanguard Wynton Marsalis, internationally acclaimed musician, composer, and bandleader, personally saw Jeffery’s potential and hand-picked him out of high school to join him at The Juilliard School in New York, a conservatory for exceptional artists like Jeffery himself.

Now presented with a big opportunity, Jeffery finds himself caught in a difficult decision to leave his grandparents and sister and chase his dreams in New York. Jeffery knew that success is never possible without sacrifice. Leaving home was tough, but he knew he had to do it.

After graduating from Juilliard with both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, he has since opened many doors for himself. At 24 years-old, Jeffery has created a name and a reputation in the music industry. He has scored three Grammy nominations, one of every musician’s most coveted awards, in 2019 for contributions to projects by Jon Batiste, Derek Bermel, and John Legend. Jeffery has graced some of the world’s biggest stages – Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden, to name a few.

He is currently set on a path to make his mark as a solo artist where he wants to produce music that would represent both his humble past and his achievements in the present. One side of his music remains deeply rooted in the melodic jazz trombone that New Orleans is much well-known for. The other would echo the sound of the contemporary R&B artist that he has become, like Ty Dolla Sign or Chris Brown. Although both musical souls might be different, Jeffery strives to make the two sides of him shine because both have made him who he is today.

At such a young age with already so many achievements, one could say that Jeffery did it with luck. But it wasn’t just luck that propelled him to who he is today. Jeffery is, without a doubt, hardworking and passionate.

To sum it all up, Jeffery Miller is from New Orleans, he has had three Grammy nominations, he has earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Juilliard, and he has performed with the biggest names at the biggest performance venues in the world. It would be exciting to see much bigger things in store in his future.
