In the lyrical world of Modern Music, Strip Club Culture has become a common reference. With many songs revolving around beautiful women, exotic dancing, money showers and classic champagne spills, the exuberant atmosphere of Dance clubs has become exceedingly popular.
Though a lot of music centers around female oriented strip dancing, very few musicians touch on Male Strip Clubs. Leon Budrow breaks the stigma by highlighting the “Magic Mike” lifestyle with his latest single “Drip Drip Strip”With much of his musical influence coming from his dancing, Budrow admits dancing is much more than a part of his branding, but an integral part of his lifestyle. Budrow has been working for the world renowned Male Revue Empire “Hunk-O-Mania.” Though the company holds shows all across the country, Budrow operates the company’s Philadelphia location as the Show’s Manager, Host MC and Magic Mike Performer.
Budrow proclaims that he is very fortunate to work for a company with great culture, as well as an amazing group of performers. The idea to capture the essence of the upbeat and groovy atmosphere of the dance show was a vital part of inspiration put forth into his latest track.
When asked if he has ever played the song “Drip Drip Strip” at the show, Budrow was excited to say that he has, and the feedback from the girls was very inspiring.
“Before I officially released the song, I would have our DJ play it at the end of our shows. It was really cool to see the girls reactions, as they would all dance to it” Budrow explains “Many of them would quickly pick up on the hook and sing along to it, which was really motivating to see”
It’s no wonder the girls would go wild for the song, as the bouncy tempo and catchy hook would quickly set the dance floor on fire, a clear validation to the song’s catchy lyrics and vibrant appeal.
The other performers also seem to enjoy the track, as Budrow mentions “The first time I tested it out, I didn’t tell any of the guys it was me. One of our members started humming to the beat and as the lyric “Hunk-O-Mania” dropped every one was taken back and exclaimed “is that you?!” It was a pretty cool to see everyone’s genuine reaction to my music.”
The very catchy title of his track “Drip Drip Strip” is coined from his experience as a performer. Budrow wanted it to encapsule the rythm and confidence with which they perform a strip show.
The song’s lyrics also make reference to the iconic strip song “Pony” by Ginuwine. When asked about this reference, Budrow was excited to express that “Pony” is the cornerstone to his “Magic Mike” strip routine, making the line “The Pony on the track got the ladies like WOW” his own personal favorite lyric in his song.
In fact, performing with Ginuwine as an opening artist has been a life altering experience in Budrow’s life, as the artist was not only able to meet the iconic performer – but show him a video dancing to the great RnB singer’s iconic hit. Budrow still considers that moment to be one of his favorite music experiences to this day.
While most songs make a reference to the popular scene of showering money on the stage and throwing money AT performers, Budrow’s lyrics describe the opposite situation having money thrown at him. To name a few lyrics, the lines “Tippin’ on my set” and “got that money in hand now they throwin’ them tips” portray the image well.
Budrow describes this to be quite a thrilling experience, but expresses that his love for the show is so much more than money, as he truly enjoys making the girls smile with his expression of dance entertainment. Creating happiness and life long memories for the women is truly the driving force with which Budrow fuels his performance, making all of the long nights and daily practice worthwhile.
Breaking societal norms on strip clubs, especially for male revue performers, requires valor, which Budrow is well known to live up to as he aspires to generate more music that brings his male revue lifestyle to limelight.
Given the current pandemic situation, Budrow admits it has been quite challenging not being able to perform live shows, though he is eager to return to the stage, ready and rejuvenated to “take it off” once things return to normal.
A true performer, Leon Budrow’s “normal” is nothing less than extraordinary in today’s world of entertainment.
