Consuming a lot of junk food may be a major factor for childhood food allergies, says a new study.

The study, which was presented at the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, suggests that the diets which are high in fat and sugar are fuelling a rise in food allergies. The researchers found that kids having allergies had a lot more amounts of harmful molecules present in their body tissues. In fact, an increasing no. of food allergy cases has been observed in the western countries, especially the UK.

A few researchers have suggested the culprit causing such allergies may be substances called AGEs (advanced glycation end products).

AGEs enter our body via food, especially processed products like bacon, burgers, cakes and pizzas.

The researchers at the Naples University analysed 61 kids between the age group of 6 and 12 years, out of 23 kids had food allergies, 22 were healthy kids without any allergies and 12 had respiratory allergies.

They discovered the kids having allergies had increased levels of AGEs just like the kids who consumed a lot of junk food, which therefore shows that junk food is responsible for the rise in food allergies.

Research had previously shown that the food allergies are much more common among kids living in regions where the processed foods are famous.

The authors of the study said that the study proved a requirement to promote and follow healthy diets.
