In 2017, professional photographer Nick Friesen learned the concept of facial expression coaching. In practicing the newly learned skill, he quickly realized that he could use this process to improve online dating photos, specifically those of his friend and future business partner, Shane White. Before they nailed down the process, they were just two guys with a small photography studio.

From there, Shane White and Nick Friesen started their online dating photography business, The Match Artist, which is dedicated to getting people out on more dates through better profile pictures.

Fast forward a few years, both founders are now engaged, which is, in part, thanks to their profile photos. They have helped more than 600 guys go on more dates than ever, many of whom have found meaningful relationships.

As any online dater knows, profile photos are the main deciding factor in matching or moving on. Your photos make the first impression, so they might as well accurately portray you at your best.

Intriguing online dating photos can significantly increase your chances of making meaningful connections. Your old, repetitive, blurry photos might be the reason you aren’t getting the matches you deserve.

The Match Artist’s Difference: Facial Expression Coaching

Facial expression coaching is The Match Artist’s practice of helping clients construct natural expressions on the spot whether they feel it or not.

Nick Friesen explains, “People naturally make certain expressions when they’re feeling confident, joyful, or even a bit mischievous. But when they’re in front of a camera, they make expressions based on what they’re taught a smile should look like, which is, in fact, completely different from their actual smile in a truly happy moment.”

The Match Artist photographers train clients to mimic natural emotions with their micro-expressions so when a camera comes out, they’re always ready.

This approach is not widely used by photographers, but it makes The Match Artist one of the more unique photography companies out there.

What Else Makes The Match Artist’s Service So Great?

The Match Artist believes the best photos are taken when the client is relaxed. They take their time to provide a comfortable experience and really get to know their clients on a personal level.

Nick Friesen says, “We think it’s essential to delve deep into each client’s personality, because it makes for better photos. People are more open than photographers often allow them to be. People are more open than standard photoshoots often allow them to be. Some of the most interesting conversations I’ve ever had have been during my photo sessions. When you give people room to open up about life, they start to show real emotion. They feel more comfortable in front of the camera, and you can better guide them toward natural expressions.”

The Match Artist provides so much more than great photos. They offer clients a way to boost their confidence and the opportunity to work with a professional to achieve their online dating goals. The whole experience has been life-changing for many of their clients.

Visit The Match Artist’s website and book a free strategy session with one of their photographers. They’ll figure out what’s going on with your online dating life and make sure you’re happy with the future of it.
