A lot of US people are now going for different Medicare coverage options to secure healthcare facilities in their retirement period. In order to know more about it, old age US people who are about to turn 65 are learning about the steps involved for enrolling in Medicare.

Other than the aging people over 65 years, people with a disability spanning 24 months are collecting knowledge for enrollment in Medicare coverage options. The basic options available in Medicare are Original Medicare (Parts A, B, and D), Original Medicare with a supplement (aka Medigap), and Part C (aka Advantage plan).

The very first and basic step is to enroll in Part A and B. For people above 65 years of age, this step is done automatically and for those with less than 65 years of age but qualifying for Medicare, it can be done by visiting the Social Security office.

Original Medicare, the first option contains parts A, B, and D. In Part A of Medicare, there is no cost involved and it gets paid during to a member in his working years. Part B covers out-patient services and Part D is the Medicare drug plan. And there are many drug plans available for different drug costs.

The second option, Original Medicare with a supplement is about keeping the original Part A and B Medicare coverage in place. One can even pick a Medicare supplement (aka Medigap) plan for paying out the pocket costs. Part C, also known as a Medicare Advantage plan covers the benefits of Medicare Parts A and B, and even also prescription drug coverage made available by Part D.

About 16% of the total US population is poor and it is opting for Medicaid coverage with their Medicare coverage to ensure the affordability of healthcare facilities for their retirement. This is referred to as a dual eligible individual. Moreover, approximately 53 million disabled people in the US are also choosing Medicare for medical security in their old age.
