Misael Guerrero grew up around food in his home state of Sinaloa, Mexico. He helped out working and cooking in his parents’ grocery stores and restaurants. So, when Misael moved to California 12 years ago, he knew he wanted to pursue a food-related endeavor, and he brought with him a taste of Sinaloa.
Starting out humble, Misael first started selling tamales outside of a swap meet for over a year. Then, due to unfortunate circumstances, Misael had to stop selling tamales and looked elsewhere for inspiration. He realized that one of the biggest delicacies of Sinaloa, Mexican-style sushi, was sold nowhere around him, and decided to bring a taste of home to California.
Misael began selling Mexican sushi from his garage and quickly built a customer base as people were familiar with his good cooking from the tamale-selling days. Misael eventually moved into his first restaurant in Rialto, California, and CulichiTown was born. Since his opening weekend, the restaurant has been a smashing success, using ingredients from Sinaloa and thorough staff training to ensure that “the taste is 100 percent Culichi”. Since its inception, the business has grown into a franchise, covering a wide range of the US with 15 locations. More locations are in the works, and you can expect the chain to pop up all over the United States in the coming years.
