James Pratt Continues on Head Jury Panel as Cannes Film Awards Expands Globally

James Pratt continues his role on the Cannes Films Awards judging panel

With more than 15,000 submissions from 160 countries and a growing roster of Oscar-nominated alumni, the Cannes Film Awards has established itself as a prominent film event held each year around the world. Los Angeles-based filmmaker James Pratt will continue his role on the festival’s head jury panel helping guide the selection of emerging talent from across the globe.

Scheduled to start June 27 in Nice, France, the festival has become a platform for both emerging and established talent. It is ranked by FilmFreeway as the most popular festival in Western Europe and second in the European Union.

Over the years, the festival has spotlighted filmmakers who have gone on to broader international recognition, including Antony Nti (Oscar shortlist), Elvira Lind (Academy Award nominee), Georgi M. Unkovski (Sundance nominee), Morad Mostafa (Cairo International Film Festival nominee), and Marie Bunel (Raindance nominee). A high number of selected projects have also secured distribution on major platforms such as Netflix, HBO, and Amazon Prime, extending the reach of emerging voices in cinema.

Meet the Jury
This year’s 2026 panel reflects a broad international range of expertise across narrative, documentary, animation, and short-form filmmaking:

James Pratt (Australia) – Head jury panel; Best Director, Cannes Film Awards 2022; worked on Emmy- and Oscar-recognized projects
Tatiana Dutuit-Sauter (Germany) – Director of Lucie, Cannes Film Awards 2023 winner
Bonie Sithebe (South Africa) – Producer working with Netflix and international broadcasters
Choukri Rouha (France) – Filmmaker recognized by Canal+ and the Orange–Beaumarchais Award
Luke Roberts (UK) – Writer and filmmaker; award-winning short Bluebottle Theory
Charlie Garcia Vitug (Philippines) – Best Asian Film, Cannes Film Awards 2025
Karen Sailer – Cannes Film Awards 2025 Best Feature Documentary
Stephanie Keelan – Industry clients include BBC, Netflix, and Amazon
Will Gruber – Cannes Film Awards 2025 Best Student Film
Anke Schaubrenner – Cannes Film Awards 2024 Best Feature Documentary

Together, the jury reflects the festival’s international scope and its focus on recognizing emerging filmmakers across disciplines. Pratt, who won Best Director at the Cannes Film Awards in 2022, has remained on the head jury panel since 2023. Based in Los Angeles, his recent work includes serving as an executive producer on Longevity Hackers alongside four-time Academy Award nominee Edward Norton, directing Eyes of Salt (2026), starring Hong Kong screen star Bernice Liu, and working as an associate producer on the upcoming comedy Wingman (2026) with veteran comedic actor Harland Williams and Kayla Wallace from Paramount’s Landman series.

For participants the Cannes Film Awards serves as a platform for discovery, underscoring the rise of international cinema and the connection between Hollywood and European film professionals.

The Cannes Film Awards is scheduled for June 27 in Nice, France.
