Uber will be launching a new helicopter service which will air transit passengers in New York from Manhattan, near Wall Street, to John F Kennedy International Airport, reports the New York Times.
The New Yorkers would be able to utilize the Uber application, known as Uber Copter in order to book a helicopter flight via the new service, the report further states.
The helicopter service will begin from 9 July and will take passengers in New York City on an 8-minute ride time till the JFK airport. Unsurprisingly, the average cost of the ride per person would range between $200 and $225, said Eric Allison, Uber’s head of aviation to the Times. He further said that the company eventually plans on offering helicopter service across other cities in the future.
Though Uber itself has not publicly made an announcement about the new helicopter service, but as per the report by the Times, flights would have space for 2 pilots and around 5 passengers.
Notably, as the company geared up for the biggest initial public offering in America previous month; it focused more on its investment across various means of transportation. Apart from being the biggest ride service hailing system, Uber also offers scooter rentals, electric bicycles, self-driving vehicles and now, helicopter service.
