In a significant move to enhance education and empower the youth of Zimbabwe, Ambassador Uebert Angel, the Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large to Europe and the Americas, has taken a revolutionary step by sponsoring the tertiary education of numerous students across the country. Through his private funding of the OPEAAL-Mnangagwa Scholarship, Ambassador Angel emphasizes his commitment to the educational ideals championed by H.E. President Mnangagwa. This initiative aims to facilitate the academic journeys of Zimbabwean students, helping them to achieve their aspirations.

Since its inception, the scholarship program has proudly surpassed its initial goal, assisting over 10,000 university and college students with their tuition fees. With an ambitious target to extend support to 100,000 students in the upcoming five years, Ambassador Angel’s efforts stand as a beacon of hope and opportunity for the nation’s youth.

The scholarship program, founded on principles of inclusivity and equality, are awarded irrespective of the recipients’ political affiliations, echoing President Mnangagwa’s vision of advancing education for all Zimbabweans, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds. This non-partisan approach ensures that support reaches the widest possible spectrum of students, fostering an environment of unity and growth.

Educational institutions, including the National University of Science and Technology, Belvedere Technical College, and Harare Polytechnic, have expressed their gratitude towards Ambassador Angel for his significant contributions. Ambassador Angel’s encouragement to students to pursue entrepreneurship and his emphasis on the value of education resonate deeply, inspiring a generation to overcome obstacles and contribute positively to Zimbabwe’s economic development.

Countless students have expressed their gratitude, including Winnet Mutasa who said, “My name is Winnet Mutasa, and I am currently enrolled in the Library and Information Science ND3 program at Gweru Polytechnic Institute. I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Ambassador Uebert Angel for generously covering my school fees. As a single parent, it was incredibly challenging for me to afford my education, and their support has significantly alleviated this burden. I am sincerely thankful for their assistance and fervently hope that they continue to extend such help to others across the country who are facing similar hardships, enabling them to pursue their educational aspirations.”

Advocate Jaji also went on to say “My name is Advocate Jaji, and I am currently studying Diesel Plant Fitting. I am one of the beneficiaries of the OPEAAL scholarship fund, which was established in honor of our esteemed leader, Comrade Emmerson Mnangagwa. I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to him, as well as to Ambassador Uebert Angel, for their invaluable support.”

Angel’s persistence in advocating for the development of practical skills through tertiary education highlights the critical role such knowledge plays in national progress.

This initiative is not a first for Ambassador Angel, whose history of supporting education dates back many years, evidenced by his past actions in support of congregants he leads at Spirit Embassy, the GoodNews Church and beyond. Ambassador Angel’s enduring dedication to educational philanthropy portrays a visionary leader committed to the academic and professional success of Zimbabwe’s future generations.

Ambassador Uebert Angel and his wife Beverly, through their philanthropic endeavors via the Uebert Angel Foundation, have significantly impacted the lives of individuals and communities in need across the globe. In a remarkable display of generosity and compassion, they have covered the school fees and levies for an entire year for all 1026 students at Bota Primary School in Masvingo, Zimbabwe, amongst others. These gestures bring immense relief to parents and joy to the school staff during times of economic hardship, highlighting Ambassador Angel’s commitment to education and empowerment as a cornerstone of his philanthropy.

Ambassador Angel’s history of giving extends far beyond the aforementioned, encompassing a wide range of charitable activities. He has generously donated millions to construct homes for the impoverished, supported numerous widows, financed educational opportunities for children in Africa, India, and parts of Europe, and backed greenhouses and self-sustaining projects aimed at fostering independence and sustainability. Furthermore, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, he generously allocated $5 million USD to The Zimbabwe Initiative, dedicated to providing essential food supplies for the marginalized communities. Ambassador Angel’s contribution addressed the pressing needs of those hit hardest by the pandemic, ensuring that vulnerable groups had access to vital nutrition during these challenging times. Uebert Angel’s philanthropy demonstrates a profound dedication to human welfare and a desire to leave a lasting, positive impact on the world.

Ambassador Uebert Angel has expressed his intention to create a legacy of love and generosity. His message underlines a commitment not just to philanthropy but to inspiring others to consider how they, too, can make a difference. This ethos of giving and supporting one another, particularly in times of need, reflects the foundational principles upheld by Uebert Angel and serves as an inspiration for others to follow in his footsteps. He vividly illustrates how compassionate leadership can effect substantial change, offering a powerful example of what it means to truly serve humanity.
