Why Do Women Love Flowers?

Jennifer Ross by Jennifer Ross

A bouquet is a universal gift. Psychologists have found that a bouquet makes girls smile twice as often as any other gift. This suggests that women love flowers and are always happy when they receive them. Flowers are good for personal and professional holidays, as:

  • surprises, to lift spirits, or to express sympathy;
  • anniversaries;
  • weddings.

They decorate rooms and use them as accessories. What is so attractive to women in bouquets? Why are they loved and considered a welcome gift? What is the reason why girls love flowers? We will find out today.

The universality

Since ancient times, different cultures have ascribed different meanings to plants. Bouquets always mean something pleasant, and they are excellent to:

  • wish love, happiness, or health;
  • express sympathy or respect;
  • refuse a meeting or even to part.

The desire to find the secret meaning in the surrounding things arises in modern girls. They are usually interested in unravelling “flower messages.”

Self-affirmation

Many girls need an external demonstration that you love them. The easiest way to show admiration is to give flowers. A bouquet in the hands of a woman indicates that she is not deprived of attention and admirers. This is the reason why women love flowers.

Aesthetics

Floral arrangements evoke a natural aesthetic pleasure. Someone sees beauty even in a minimal curve of the petal. Someone appreciates the overall appearance of the gift. But the bouquet’s beauty is not indifferent.

Romance and the Allure of Bouquets in a Woman’s Eyes

When listing other reasons, we didn’t mention the romantic context at all. Flowers are a powerful symbol of romance, tenderness, sensuality, and love.

A more ancient symbol of life probably dictates why women love flowers. A flower has always been associated with beauty and vibrant energy. It reaches for the sun and makes its way, no matter what. You can take sunflowers, for example. They bloom in the hottest season, or ranunculus, which grows in swampy soil.

Flowers represent life, and life is impossible without love. This feeling makes people happy. It motivates them to succeed and helps them survive the most difficult times. Where there is love, there will always be a place for flowers.

The historical roots of women’s love for flowers

According to anthropologists, the love for floral arrangements is embedded in the subconscious. It was born in ancient times. Primitive people gathered and brought herbs and roots into the caves. This was their sustenance. So the image of the plant as a source of life and energy is forever preserved in human memory. That’s why girls love flowers.

Another reason for flower admiring is the ancient initiation rituals of girls. That is their transition from one status to another. It goes back to the depths of history. For example, a wedding symbolizes the transition to the status of a married woman.

For initiation to be successful, they need the attention and protection of the gods. In some cultures, they were first asked for sacrifices and later with fresh flowers. Modern festivities cannot be imagined without flowers – that is how it was historically established.

Surprise

A pleasant surprise always brings joy. It can be an answer to why women love flowers.  You can order flowers delivered to a girl at work or buy a bouquet on the way home. Such a gift involuntarily causes confusion and positive emotions at first.

The psychological effect of flowers on women

Psychologists at Rutgers University (USA, New Jersey) proved that bouquets strongly influence the emotional state of their recipients:

  • Evoke a sincere smile, pleasant surprise, and embarrassment;
  • Give a sense of unconstrained happiness and improve mood;
  • Create a more trusting relationship with others;
  • Reduce anxiety, apathy, and feelings of depression.

Survey results showed that respondents perceived rooms with potted and vase living flowers as more comfortable. The occupants seem happy and welcoming.

Leatrice Eisma believes flowers have a powerful emotional effect. The petals’ hue affects the brain’s visual part and the fragrance, the part responsible for the smell. The result is a range of experiences. Here are some examples of flowers to give a girl:

  • A bouquet of delicate pink peonies and white and lilac roses create a romantic mood, and give a sense of intimacy, care, and comfort.
  • Red, orange, pink, white, and yellow roses framed by dark green foliage seem to nourish energy and joy. They set an optimistic tone and cheerfulness.

Red roses with alstroemerias speak of love, sincere feelings, and pleasure. The snow-white shade balances the passionate scarlet. And the composition turns out to be moderately restrained but sensual.
