A bright example of Rustam’s charity work is LakiBuks in cooperation with the fund I am Future of Ukraine. This project supports new talented authors and helps popularization of non-fiction in Ukrainian for teenagers.
The LakiBuks project started in 2017 with an official launch at the Book Arsenal festival. The next year LakiBuks was already one of the festival’s partners and since then visited many cities in Ukraine and Europe.
In the beginning, LakiBuks was only working with several kids’ libraries in the East of Ukraine. Now it is a partner of over 200 libraries in the whole country. In 2018 the project celebrated a big benchmark: the donation of over 5,000 teenage pop science books. The books were mainly brought to small villages where libraries lacked such literature, especially in Ukrainian. Rustam Gilfanov admits that LakiBuks is his most important program.
Another big project in the educational sphere is the renovation of the Kyiv children’s library. In this library, there is an IT room where visitors have access to programming courses by the country’s most prominent IT companies. Being set up as a sole project, it is now actively developing in other Ukrainian cities.
