Ary Satish is an award-winning, international actor born in Kerala, India, raised in Florida, Dallas, New York, Colombo, and Mumbai, and a graduate of NYU’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts. He is the winner of the “Best Actor” award at both the New York Independent Cinema Awards and the Cult Movies International Film Festival, performing in some of India’s most prestigious venues and selling out 220+ seats per show in front of elite industry figures.
Produced by the Gaysi family, a unique and regionally acclaimed multimedia production company that has partnered with Adidas, Levi’s, and Penguin Publishing, Kyun Queer shifts India’s theater paradigm and breaks new ground in telling queer friendly stories. Additionally, the show is funded by Keshav Suri, a recipient of the Yahoo Finance and Outstanding List’s Top 100 LGBT+ Executives award who has attracted national and international awards and honors for his foundation’s efforts.
From the Audition to the Stage
When Satish auditioned for Kyun Queer, the producers had already cast most of the show. Upon being impressed by his audition tape and reading about his accomplished background, they felt inspired to create new roles for the play, all of which he would portray single-handedly. With a career spanning from the United States, to India and Sri Lanka, Satish’s multilingual, multihyphenate skill set prepared him well for navigating the slapstick nature of Kyun Queer’s slapstick comedy angle. His versatile execution of performance elements across multiple characters, from the use of physical mimicry to the precision of his line delivery, showcase his innate ability to bring characters to life.

Daring to Be Seen: The Impact of Performing in a Trailblazing LGBTQ+ Production
In recent years, India’s queer community has gradually expanded. Having been involved in New York’s off-broadway production, Le Bijou de Paris – another queer focused play – Satish felt an immense gratitude to be able to stand with the queer community in Mumbai and pave the way for discussions to be had about queer relationships and identity. While the audience demographic consisted of many queer folk, Satish remarked that most of the attendees had never witnessed any performance media that had catered to queer characters and themes before, shattering the prevalent heteronormative sociopolitical backdrop in India’s entertainment scene and paving the way for social change.
A Cross-Cultural Powerhouse: Ary Satish’s Influence in the Performing Arts
With Kyun Queer, Ary Satish’s body of work continues to reflect a rare combination of artistic talent, professionalism, and cross-cultural pedigree. His contributions to theater and film make him a valuable asset to any theater company innovating a progressive movement.
