Business owners who run global businesses understand the value of conveying marketing messages to a worldwide audience for maximum success. There is a high chance of failure if the product or service fails to connect to the customers in their local language. In this article, we will discuss how a global business owner can overcome language and cultural barriers when devising their communication strategy. Let’s begin.

Creating strategies for cross-cultural communication

When you are creating communication material for a foreign culture, you must ensure that your core message doesn’t offend or become inappropriate for that particular market. It must be relevant to local values, culture, and communication style. To avoid mistakes,  you can hire a local team or a culturally-versed individual to create a more effective cross-cultural communication plan for your business.

Getting translation services

English isn’t the primary language in every country of the world. If you launch your business in one of those countries, you must translate your marketing materials into that particular language. To achieve maximum success, you must hire translation services to ensure immaculate business communication, and it isn’t only relevant to marketing materials. You also need translation services for business communication materials such as contracts, manuals, and legal documents. Translating them will ensure transparency and clarity. Professional translation services can translate your material into any language. If you already have it translated, you can get a translation quality assurance from the experts to ensure that you’re on the right track.

Training employees

Even if you hire a local team in the foreign country where you are launching your business, your team at your parent company must maintain regular communication with the other company to ensure smooth operations. They must also communicate with foreign stakeholders, clients, and customers. That’s why you should train your employees in that particular language and have them gather enough understanding of their culture. They don’t have to be an expert in the foreign language, but they should understand the basics to maintain the decorum. This practice will help them respect foreign values and norms and also broaden their horizon regarding foreign business practices. Not to mention, this practice will ensure that both of your teams have a powerful bond and generate better output.

Using advanced technology to bridge communication gaps

Technological advancement has gifted us with tools that can be used to diminish communication gaps between foreign language-speaking teams. You can use various translation software to quickly turn business emails and texts into local or foreign languages. Many chat apps now come with instant translation to help reduce confusion during formal conversations. You can also use video conferencing apps to hop on a quick one-to-one video call and avoid miscommunications.

Creating culturally appropriate content

Design culturally sensitive marketing materials because they are the key to your success in a foreign market. Only appropriate content will increase engagement because people will relate to it more than a foreign advertisement. Don’t just translate your marketing material into the desired language, but try to understand the cultural values and norms of the target market and create content that better resonates with them. It will create a long-lasting impression on the target audience and help you build a strong bond that will generate hundreds of thousands of customers for you within a short period.

Collecting regular feedback

The success of marketing campaigns affects the sales of your product or service. And that’s why, you should collect regular feedback on your marketing efforts to ensure that you’re on the right path. Foster a habit of regular feedback collection within your organization – both in the parent company and the one that’s functioning abroad. You can hold surveys, suggestion boxes, and regular check-ins to collect feedback on your marketing materials. Ask customers to help you, or pay them to participate in research to ensure feedback accuracy. Pay attention to the results and fine-tune your marketing communication accordingly to get better performance and results.

Consulting a local language expert

You can always hire a local language expert or local translation service to ensure that your message is appropriate and culturally relevant if you’re unsure about your marketing communication efforts in a foreign country. Translating your material might not always fetch the best results because they might fail to reflect the cultural nuances. In this case, a native-speaking translation service is more likely to do the job with better accuracy. This practice will help you connect with your audience better because they would be able to relate to that message more. You can always go for international translation services if you fail to hire a suitable local one because international services tend to have translators who are versed in multiple languages.

Evaluating and updating strategies

The final step is to continue to monitor and evaluate your communication effectiveness. The best way to measure the effectiveness of your marketing efforts is to monitor your sales. If one of your particular campaigns brings in more sales, it indicates that your communication was effective. And if it fails to fetch any significant result, it means something is wrong with your marketing communication efforts. In that case, you can collect feedback from your customers to understand where you went wrong. Or, you can have a local marketing specialist or a local translation service to check your marketing communication materials and identify the problem. Update your strategies accordingly, and apply them during the next campaign for better results.

Scaling your business and going global can be extremely exciting. However, it comes with its challenges, especially when language is the biggest barrier. International and local translation services can be lifesavers and help you convey your messages in a culturally relevant way, making the efforts effective in terms of generating sales.
