Award-winning author, recording Artist, and Activist Ross Victory announces an exciting new multi-media literary adventure. The multifaceted artist is an accomplished singer, songwriter, producer, and writer. He brings all these skills and talents to bear on his latest and most ambitious undertaking, a multi-format book series, Grandpa’s Cabin.

The Los Angeles native first shared his work with the public in 2019 through a powerful memoir, Views from the Cockpit, which Book Life by Publisher’s Weekly said, “stands apart.” While this was the public’s first exposure to Victory, he had amassed years of practical experience through dozens of writing competitions, talent shows, and recording sessions. Victory had quietly become a veteran through passion and practice, often “making it look easy.” Since childhood, Ross has enjoyed writing stories and recording music while developing an entrepreneurial mindset and honing his ability to impact through words.

After the death of his father and brother, Victory turned to art to soothe the despair. Assisted by free time incurred from the COVID-19 shutdowns, he began publishing novels, cutting records, and winning industry accolades. He became known for intersectional, educational, and entertaining stories. The author’s sixth and latest book introduces a few screams into the mix.

Grandpa’s Cabin

Grandpa’s Cabin is the first in a three-book series. The first horror sci-fi book will be available everywhere on September 13, 2023. Ross is releasing Book 1 in three formats: as a paperback/ebook, a coloring/lookbook illustrated by David Izaguirre, Jr., and later an audiobook. The audio experience will offer original music, sound effects, and recorded readings, available January 7, 2024.

Grandpa’s Cabin Book 1 tells the story of eighty-four-year-old geneticist Bernie Crenshaw. Near the end of his life, he leaves a mysterious estate to his eighteen-year-old grandson, Nova. The only condition is that the boy never sells it, as the place is home to dark family secrets. Three years later, Nova and his friends celebrate his 21st birthday at the cabin. Consequently, they come face-to-face with those secrets, and Nova must choose between his friends and his family’s legacy.

What makes the book excellent is the execution–the combined qualities of concept, story, technical writing ability, artwork, and marketability for product extensions and merchandising. Early readers of Grandpa’s Cabin have described the book as “their best book of 2023.” One Goodreads reviewer wrote, “If you’re a fan of teen horror movies (like I Know What You Did Last Summer or Scream), horror fiction in general, you do NOT want to let this one pass you by. Victory exceeded my expectations.”

Excellence in Diverse Storytelling

R.R. Bowker estimates that in 2021, there were 2,300,336 new self-published titles. Recent surveys have shown a need for more diversity in the publishing industry, even in 2023.

In 2019, the Cooperative Children’s Book Center, an organization that reports statistics on children and Young Adult books, said that 42% of main characters are white, 29.2% are animals, only 9.2% have brown skin, and 3.1% are LGBTQ.

The journey to a completed book project is long and tenuous, and typically does not come with affirmation along the way. With Grandpa’s Cabin, bookworms get an excellent story from an ambitious, self-published author with an interesting perspective and a way with words. Readers will also get a 100% BIPOC cast and 100% BIPOC artwork (illustrated by David Izaguirre, Jr.) in the popular horror/sci-fi genre, which is needed in publishing right now. Authentic perspectives and rare insights are baked into every project as Victory is black and part of the LGBTQ and bi+ communities. Victory’s contributions are relevant and necessary to strengthen the case for diversity and inclusion.

Grandpa’s Cabin by Ross Victory will be available in print, ebook, coloring/storybook, and audiobook everywhere on September 13, 2023. It is the first of an exciting new three-book Y.A. sci-fi/horror series that you don’t want to miss! Get your copy today.
