Lunar Phases

Suave Tequila’s Lunar Cycle Concept is an ancestral agricultural methodology dating back centuries ago; it is a folklore that permeates through cultures and transcends the concept of time. The word-of-mouth legend states that if you plant crops such as corn on a full moon, they won’t grow correctly because of the said gravitational pull of the moon. Therefore, Suave’s founders believe the legend rolls over to the sugars in their agave plants as well, so they plant and harvest their agaves according to the Lunar cycles. Harvest season for them is always during a new moon, which is the complete opposite time as a full moon.

“We have our signature expression called Lunar, a silver, that we pour into a barrel on a full moon and take it out 28 days later when the next full moon strikes,” said Jaime Villalobos Sauza, descendant of one of the oldest tequila families in the industry (Sauza Tequila), and now-partner distiller of Suave Tequila. This technique “captures the essence of both dualities and comes out like a perfect blend between a blanco and a reposado.”

In addition to his family history, Sauza has extensive experience as an official tequila taster for the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) and is president of The Organization of Sommeliers of Mexico (ONSOM). Together with the founders of Suave, Sauza is producing one of the world’s most distinguished sipping tequilas the industry has to offer.

Weight Loss and More

Did you know 100% agave tequila is in fact gluten-free? According to the Good Health Centre, “Tequila has a particular kind of sugar in it called agavins, which possess some weight-loss properties. The special molecular structure of agavins doesn’t raise the blood sugar, meaning that many of the calories pass through the system unused, unlike other alcohol sugars, helping dissolve fats and stimulate the metabolism.”
