5 Ways to Hack Your Vape for Better Flavor

If you were to ask a fairly new vaper why he or she enjoys vaping, you’d probably get an answer along the lines of, “I enjoy vaping because it helped me quit smoking.” After you’ve been vaping for a while, though, those old cigarette cravings start to fade away. At that point, you’re no longer vaping to help yourself stay away from tobacco – you’re vaping just for the enjoyment of vaping itself. If you asked a long-term vaper what that person enjoys the most about his or her vaping experience, “flavor” is probably the answer you’d get.

If you vape and have reached that stage in your journey as a vaper, you’re probably nodding your head right now. For long-term vapers, flavor really is everything. In many cases, the most experienced vapers barely even require the nicotine anymore. What they really enjoy is chasing down the latest flavors from companies like Humble Vape Juice and experiencing those flavors firsthand.

So, are you a true flavor chaser? If so, this is the article for you. You’re about to learn five ways to hack your vape for better flavor. Let’s dive in!

Start by Finding an E-Liquid You Love

We’re going to start with the most important aspect of flavor chasing, and it actually has nothing to do with your vaping hardware at all. If you want your e-liquid to taste as spectacular as it possibly can, you’ve got to have an e-liquid that already tastes spectacular to you before you start tweaking your vaping equipment. Adjusting your vaping device for better flavor quality isn’t going to reveal some previously unknown flavor component that turns a mediocre e-liquid into a great one.

If you want to hack your vape for better flavor, it has to be because you absolutely adore your favorite e-liquid and want to taste even more of it. If you don’t have an e-liquid you love, don’t worry about your vaping equipment. Keep trying different vape juice flavors until you find the one that’s perfect for you.

Use a Vape Tank with a Mesh Coil

If you want your vape to produce a better flavor, the most important thing that you need to do right now is start using a vape tank with a mesh coil if you aren’t already. Compared to the standard vape coils made from wound resistance wire, mesh coils are so much better in every way that there’s almost no reason why every vaper in the world shouldn’t be using them.

Here’s why mesh coils are so great for flavor chasing.

  • A mesh coil has very low mass, so it heats instantly when you press your vaping device’s fire button.
  • A mesh coil has a large surface area that offers even, consistent heating. Even heating means that a mesh coil won’t spit hot droplets of e-liquid into your mouth, and that makes for vastly superior flavor.
  • A mesh coil makes firm, even contact with its wick. That helps to eliminate the burned flavors that plague old-style vape coils.

Just about all new vape tanks use mesh coils today, so you should have no trouble finding one that will work with your device.

Reduce Your Tank’s Airflow if You Like Warmer Vapor

Many people who vape enjoy it when their tanks produce very warm vapor because a warmer vapor often has a more intense flavor. The problem, though, is that increasing your mod’s wattage is often a bad way of making the vapor warmer. The higher your device’s wattage is, the more likely it becomes that you’ll burn your coil’s wick – and if that happens, the coil is ruined.

Instead, try using your tank’s airflow adjustment collar to slightly reduce the volume of air flowing through the tank. Doing that will make the vapor slightly warmer, thus increasing the intensity of the flavor. The flavor may become so intense, in fact, that you’ll need to reduce your device’s wattage slightly to compensate. Tweak the airflow and wattage until you find a balance that’s perfect for you.

Replace Your Tank’s Mouthpiece for a New Flavor Experience

Are you still using the original mouthpiece that was included with your vape tank? One of the fun things about using a vape tank is that the mouthpieces usually come in standard sizes and are easy to replace. A smaller vape tank uses a mouthpiece called a 510 drip tip, and a larger tank uses an 810 drip tip. If you search online for those terms, you’ll find plenty of replacements in a variety of sizes, shapes and materials that will fit your vape tank.

If you’ve never experimented with third-party drip tips, you’ve probably never considered how dramatically the mouthpiece can affect a vape tank’s flavor. A drip tip with a slightly different shape can concentrate the vapor on a different section of your tongue, allowing you to taste certain flavor notes in your e-liquid more prominently. You may find that certain drip tips greatly improve your experience with specific vape juices.

Buy a New Vape and Change Your Inhaling Style

If you’re potentially interested in making a change that alters your vaping experience in a more dramatic way, it might be time to try a new vaping device. Vaping devices and tanks are designed for two different inhaling styles. There’s the mouth-to-lung (MTL) style – which you might be using now if you’re a new vaper – and the direct-to-lung (DTL) style, which is what the more advanced vaping devices usually use.

Powerful vaping devices and tanks are optimized for the DTL inhaling style and often produce extremely large vapor clouds – and the bigger the clouds are, the more e-liquid you’re inhaling with each puff. More e-liquid means deeper, bolder flavors. Switching to the DTL vaping style does mean that you’ll need to reduce the nicotine strength of your e-liquid. The good news, though, is that you can often do that without changing your flavor. These days, the biggest e-liquid brands are producing their products in both high-strength and low-strength versions. That means you can switch to a more powerful vaping device while still using the vape juice flavor you love.
