Art is for everyone, no matter where you come from or what you’ve been through. In art you can find solace, a home and the art that comes from you can take you to the greatest height of the world.

Roodmy Poulard, the newest director to set L.A. ablaze is originally from Haiti. Speaking of his childhood days, he recounts, “Where I come from, we don’t many resources – we barely scraped through. And this situation wasn’t unique to my family alone, many of us were grateful to just have a roof over our heads, food on the plate and clothes on our back. I come from a place, whose Halley’s comet is electricity. Even in such conditions my inner artist always flourished, and that artist within me has flown me places which I never imagined even in my wildest dreams.”.

When Poulard – formerly a choreographer -stepped into the field of directing and cinematography, he instantly started making waves.

Warm shades, golden hues- Poulard has used his Haitian background as the inspiration for his signature colour palette. Tweaking these tones to capture a story of passion, discipline and joy, Poulard has shown an upward artistic trajectory with all his works.

He started his career behind the camera as a director for music videos. Then a life changing offer knocked at his door – a documentary. This offer was for filming the documentary for the then Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe. After wrapping up this project Poulard flew to South Africa to film another politically charged documentary.

These documentaries proved to be a turning point in Poulard’s artistic journey and life. He struck a chord with his work and caught attention in the States.

In 2015, he made the move to the Big Apple.

In New York City, he worked towards his career as a director and cinematographer. There Poulard worked with B.E.T and the renowned photographer and director Marc Baptiste – who became his mentor. Baptiste and Poulard did a project with Quincy Brown. Impressed with the work, Brown encouraged Poulard to continue pursuing his ambitions as a director, and to move to Los Angeles to broaden his horizons.

In LA, Poulard hopped off the plane thinking he was in sunny California for a fortnight – to attend meetings and forge connections. But he instantly enamoured by the energy of the city and the art that flowed in the very veins of the city. Here, Poulard grew exponentially – both as an artist and as a star. His work started gaining recognition and he started making a name for himself. He started working with Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs – Revolt TV’s founder- as a key cinematographer for the former’s upcoming projects. And also landed projects with streaming giants like Netflix, Pandora, Revolt, and HBO.

He also founded Poulard Films to find more collaborative opportunities and to have a solid base from which he could pursue independent projects.
