Things you should know

Most commercial greenhouse designs are customized, with various alternatives and configurations that can help you create a suitable environment to fit the plants’ growing requirements.

People prefer commercial greenhouses because they can grow off-season crops quickly. You can likewise extend the growing season to meet the increasing demand and maximize the yield simultaneously. In addition, commercial greenhouses allow operators to sustain the growth of plants for a more economically viable effort.

Building commercial greenhouse

Several factors affect the building of a greenhouse. Initially, you should take an objective look at the location where you intend to build the greenhouse. Then, consider the climate and the space, affecting the number of greenhouse structures you can construct.

Other aspects to consider are weather and climatic conditions prevalent in the area. Your greenhouse structures should be suitable for the environment, as the location and weather conditions can affect cooling and heating systems, ventilation, and water supply for irrigation.

It can take 30 days before you can finish the construction of the greenhouses. Therefore, you should time the building before the launch of your business. Also, keep in mind that your facility should have ample storage space for your equipment and various growing supplies, such as seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, potting mixers, seed starting trays, and pots.

The area you choose should be close to consumers and markets. There should be ample driveways and parking areas. Likewise, it is vital to understand the zonal requirements and the rules and regulations that govern greenhouse construction.

Materials for commercial greenhouses

Commercial greenhouses are made from a combination of different materials. The glazing (cover) is typically made from glass, acrylic, fiberglass, polycarbonate, or plastic sheets. Typically, the frames use sturdy materials that will not rot or decay quickly. Most are made from PVC, galvanized steel, or aluminum. The latter is a common material because it is lightweight yet durable. If you are purchasing greenhouse kits, you can expect to assemble them with screws and hinges. You can hire workers to complete the kits or outsource their construction.

Required supplies

You will need irrigation and sprinkler systems, flooring and ground covers, various containers, carts and pots, and hydroponic kits. Likewise, you will need supplemental lighting, ventilation, cooling, and heating systems, a variety of garden tools, and a range of plant growing materials.

There is always the possibility of going overboard when purchasing equipment and growing materials for the greenhouse. Therefore, consult an expert to ensure that you get only the essential items necessary to start running the greenhouse.
