The college football season is back running which means we’ve returned to having our weekend schedules jammed with intriguing matchups available on TV and live streaming. The season will take on a structure more like we’re used to than what was the case last season. The new season kicked off on September 2nd and will run through the first Saturday of December when it’s time for the traditional Playoff matches. All matches, including the Playoff matches and Bowls will be covered by ESPN and Fox as part of the current broadcasting deal running through the 2025 season.

College Football Season is back

A lot of the discussions prior to the new college season have been about whether Texas and Oklahoma will make reality of their plans to leave the Big 12 for the SEC. It’s no doubt their departure would be a massive blow for the league as they’re two of the biggest and most followed teams in the league.

The potential departure of Texas and Oklahoma has put the plans of expanding the college football playoffs to 12 teams on hold. The plan was to have the expansion process in place before the announcement from Texas and Oklahoma, but as things turned out the expansion plans will now be back at square zero and it’s still to be seen how this is going to turn out.

Both teams, Longhorns and Sooners, are believed to honor their contract with the Big 12 and not leave the league before 2025 when the current contract with ESPN and Fox ends. The Big 12 representatives have already begun the job of finding suitable replacements and according to various sources UFC, Cincinnati, BYU and Houston are the primary targets. A lot of changes in the pipeline, though nothing seems to affect the upcoming seasons.

Whatever happens to the expansion plans and the departure of Texas and Oklahoma we can be sure about what to expect from the 2021 campaign. The fans are back in the stands and the players have eagerly been waiting for the new season to start. With college football every weekend until December, this is the time of the year for every football fans.
