Letters, then how to make letters into words, words into sentences, and then sentences in a story, a wonderful story about the world of literature.

The earlier you start reading aloud to your babies, the better. Reading first rhyme books or fairy-tales “together” is not only enjoyment or a special bonding time for the two of you but a great way to generate in a child the inspiration of love for reading. It is up to you how much to read but do it as much as your child responds to and enjoys.

Reading aloud is aimed not only at making the child learn to identify sounds and words. It is much more important to see if your early reader comprehends what you are reading. So, asking questions, discussing what you have read, interacting with your child constantly is a very effective way to achieve the aim. Also, asking questions will help children get into a book, develop and improve their vocabulary.

When your child is about three years old you can ask more difficult questions. For example, ask them to predict what might happen in the story or why he thinks a character made a particular choice.

Children learn by example. Thus, if you want your child to love reading, read yourself! Let your children see you reading at home every day.

Don’t teach your children the ABC purposely, making them memorize it by drilling. It will be much more efficient to look for the letters while out and about and in the environment around you: store names, signs, advertising tabloids. You can start at your child’s earliest age and do it while going for a walk, driving to kindergarten, or doing shopping. While playing, young learners’ brains are like sponges, they absorb and adopt every letter you show them to satisfy their curiosity. And as soon as your children define the sounds each letter makes, they are ready to begin putting them together in words.

Once a kid has shown an interest in letters and sounds, a great help for parents to develop their child’s abilities and skills will be to use a wide range of modern digital technologies, smart software, and learning apps. Alphabet, Writing, Coloring Pages, Reading worksheets, and games are provided by enormous Internet resources. You can always refer to free preschool reading worksheets as well.

Young readers who are around 5 years old can also be taught to distinguish different genres or types of literature. At this age, children can easily recognize the difference between real stories and facts about animals and make-believe, alphabet, and songbooks. It is important to teach children to differentiate the types because it will teach them to comprehend what they are reading.

There is one more great way to teach your children to read – teach rhyming words. It’s funny and captivating activity to find out patterns in reading by grouping sets of letters within a word. Try and you will see your kids will love it! Moreover, recognizing rhyming words is a great language skill that might be useful for young learners in the future.

There are a lot of strategies and useful suggestions on how to teach a child to read, so choose which ones are the best for your beginner.
