Even in the middle of a crowd, it’s hard to miss a pair of specs from SkyTrues. The vibrant colors and distinctive designs of the high-end eyewear have become a favorite for many A-listers and personalities. Founded by musician and artist George “Goldenboy” Phelps, SkyTrues Custom Eyewear Brand allows wearers to make a statement on their frames and stand out among the crowd.

Skytrues shades are custom handcrafted pieces that are designed specifically for the customer—no two pairs are alike. Artisan George Phelps takes into account the customer’s personality and tastes as well as their measurements to create a work of art that is truly one of a kind. SkyTrues is a high fashion and high-profile brand that can take one’s look to the next level.

For the past seven years, since the brand was launched, George Phelps has taken the brand to heights unimaginable. His creative vision is worn by celebrities from hip-hop legends to politicians and ballplayers. SkyTrues frames have been worn in London and the UK, from New York to California, and were even spotted on the Soul Train Music Awards.

Major celebrities such as Dennis Rodman, boxing legend Mike Tyson, City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, Rock’ n’ Roll Hall of Famer and legend George Clinton, Angie Stone, Paul Wall, Lil’ Flip, and Waka Flocka, have all been spotted sporting frames by SkyTrues.

The brand’s bold and audacious designs have garnered the attention of local media and have been featured in magazines such as the Houston Style Magazine, Rolling Out, and The Young Houston, as well as a selection of blogs. SkyTrues sunglasses also earned a feature on Great Day Houston: Debra Duncan Show.

Recently, George Phelps was approached by a media mogul and presented with a contract for the brand to become part of a reality TV show for Houston’s upcoming designers. The SkyTrues brand has become part of many fashion and design-related events, such as the iFest, the Summer Street Art Show, the Dominion Fashion Show, the Peveto Fashion Show for the JuCan Foundation, RAWartist, the Diva Day Fashion Show, and several other fashion shows in Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and New Orleans.

In addition to the numerous opportunities for exposure, SkyTrues has received several awards from The Boys & Girls Club of America, Sparkles of Life, and The 5th Ward Youth Academy. In recognition of his award-winning artistic work, George Phelps was listed in Houston’s 40 Top Influential Men.

George created SkyTrues to symbolize being true to the skies of flyness—for people who like to be fly and people who like to be different. His brand represents those who soar to new heights but remain true to who they are. SkyTrues was born from the art of being oneself and being original at all costs.

Despite its reach and current status symbol, George refuses to settle, and instead is aiming to take SkyTrues Custom Eyewear Brand to the next level. “In 5 to 10 years, I hope to see it more global than it already is. I would love to have A-list celebrities, entertainers, and even political juggernauts rocking SkyTrues. My ultimate goal is to offer consultations around the world where I go to the client’s house, look at their closet and design, colors and frames around their wardrobe,” he said.

In the future, he hopes to collaborate with eyewear giants such as Ray-Ban or Versace to produce exclusive customized lines of eyewear.
