The movement I am encouraging is the “True Elegance is Holistic” movement. As a community, we are going too far into the artificial, the unreal, the overly modified, and plastic. True beauty is not synthetic; it’s holistic.”

We had the pleasure to interview Dr Wilton Triggs . Dr Triggs is a great plastic surgeon, considered a leader and anti-ageing, well-being. Dr Triggs specializes in plastic surgery cosmetic treatments and more to better health and appearance.

Thank you so much for joining us! Tell us something about your field .

Dr Wilton Triggs: I am a black plastic surgeon that performs both reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is a field with little diversity. In 2013, I was one of 3 Integrated plastic surgery applicants accepted into a training program in the US.

First Black chief resident of the University of South Florida’s Department of Plastic Surgery 2018-2019

Tell us something about your family and childhood if you are comfortable .

Dr Wilton Triggs: I grew up in an impoverished rural community with no medial influences. I am a product of a single-parent household where money was very time tight. I have faced both overt and systemic racism to reach where I am at today. I believed by working hard, surrounding myself with like minded and intelligent people, and prayer, I was able to overcome the odds placed against me to succeed.

What you feel about your community, are you doing something about it?

Dr Wilton Triggs: Well, in our community to become a Doctor is rare you will get businessmen, musicians and all but Doctor is exceptional. So it feels right I represent my community in this field.

I have a strong presence in the city in regards to mentoring elementary school-age children to medical students. I also lobby on behalf of the speciality of plastic surgery to the US congress, in regards to increasing residency slots and access to speciality care.

What advice would you give to your community people?

Dr Wilton Triggs: Well, I would say work hard, focus more on your work and support each other in a tough time. If anyone needs my help, I am always available to help my community and be a Doctor; I am available for everyone who needs my help.

What another thing you would have done if not a Doctor.

Dr Wilton Triggs: Aah, that’s a good one, I would have been a fashion designer as I take my clothing, styling seriously. I am even thinking about starting my fashion brand in the future.

Can you please give us your favourite “Life Lesson”?

Dr Wilton Triggs: Treat others like you would like to be treated “Black life matters.” If you do this, then you will earn the respect of most people from our community. As a Doctor, I am getting fantastic love and respect from everyone, and I will always be thankful for that.

I made a name for myself by staying true to my morals and never compromising my character. I believe in two sayings. “Stay Hungry, Stay Humble and Personal Progress Is An Everyday Endeavor.”
