Specialists in any given industry are given respect for their expertise in their chosen fields and the contributions they bring in terms of pushing their craft forward. As a specialist, one often focuses on just a single concentration, but there are those who are so innately talented that they are able to leave their mark in several areas.

Mentor, entrepreneur, musician, and consultant Gary Upton regularly demonstrates this mastery in multiple sectors and is currently inspiring others to build on their own excellence.

Inside the Shift That Challenged Biologics Manufacturing Norms

Intensely driven, Gary spends his time designing new ways to bridge the gap between what exists and what could be, irrespective of the nature of this gap. For colleges and universities whose students lack real-world, hands-on experiences, Gary provides the necessary opportunities that facilitate practical knowledge through his lectures on innovation and entrepreneurial vision. And for teams and businesses that need an expansion in skills and perspective, this multi-talented speaker addresses their issues through the conduct of webcasts and workshops.

Born in England during the 1980s, Gary was raised on a council estate and moved with his mother to America during his teenage years. Growing up, he played double bass and spent his early years working in a music shop. He ended up opening his workshop in 1999 after studying music at Western Connecticut State University.

Gary’s one-person string shop, which would soon grow to become an American manufacturing facility that employs and manages dozens of dedicated artisans and development personnel, started its humble beginnings as a company that refurbishes and sells basses. Now, Upton Bass String Instrument Company has gained worldwide acclaim and earned the appreciation of Grammy award-winning musicians and symphonies across the country. Under Gary’s direction, this manufacturer of double basses in the United States continues to lengthen its list of elite clients due to its adherence to quality standards that reflect Gary’s lifelong love of the instrument.

As a fitness enthusiast, Gary also entered the health industry by developing a lifestyle and fitness brand known as UP Fitness. It is an upscale gym, which offers sophisticated workout options to the Mystic, CT community. Furthermore, he showcased another set of skills when he served as a consultant, working in and out of the courtroom with notable clients, law firms, and accountants. Moreover, the investment industry has Gary’s name stamped on it after his successful track record of coordinating multi-million dollar projects.

But amidst the wide range of ventures that Gary is involved in, he is most dedicated to trying to invent measures that connect local communities with the resources that can address their needs. In addition, he is likewise passionate about investing in the local community, as evidenced by his chairmanship of East Lyme Inland Wetlands, an agency that protects local resources from potentially hazardous development.

It is expected that Gary Upton will continue to make his leadership known to more industries in the future. In the coming years, he aims to mentor young people in navigating the local political landscape. A book that revolves around the intersection of innovation and business is also in the works, and it is told through the story of one of his inventions — a double bass which can be disassembled to fit in a suitcase.
