The New York State Department of Health recently informed the public regarding the detection of coronavirus or COVID-19 in different communities all over the New York State. The residents of adult care facilities and nursing homes were noted to be at a higher risk due to their age and their physical frailty and acute medical conditions.

Healthcare personnel, other providers of direct care, and visitors who enter adult care facilities and nursing homes, either asymptomatic or symptomatic with COVID-19  are noted to be potential carriers of the virus.

With the full knowledge of this, Oceanview Manor Home for Adults is following all guidance and regulations from the NYS Department of Health and will continue to remain proactive with all guidance and communications that will benefit our resident population.

Below are just some of the measures they took in accordance with the guidelines communicated by the New York State Department of Health:

Visitors

Oceanview Manor Home for Adults made the decision to restrict visitor access prior to guidance from the NYS Department of Health in an effort to prevent community spread of the infection in the Home.  Visitors might introduce the infection to the facility if they are sick through community transmission in the US, internationally, or after having close contact with a COVID-19 patient.

Oceanview Manor Home for Adults continued to be forward thinking in its approach to the virus and resident protection.

PUI or Infection Control Standards

The staff members of Oceanview Manor are exposed daily to the general community and might become infected with different acute respiratory illnesses including COVID-19 if there is a community transmission taking place. Thus, the home strictly enforces its illness policies in accordance with guidance from the NYS Department of Health.

Any staff member who reports active symptoms of infection are not allowed to be at work and must refrain from returning to work until fully recovered. Based on the regulations of the state, Oceanview Manor restricts individuals from the premises either as a volunteer or employer if infected with any type of communicable disease that could put the residents’ health at risk.

Staff members with potential exposure to a confirmed COVID-19 patient or a person exposed are placed under mandatory quarantine or precautionary quarantine by the public health officials according to the level of risk or symptoms shown for having contracted COVID-19.

No staff member is allowed to enter the building unless they have their temperature checked and there are results proving no fever. If the staff member is found ill during the screening, Oceanview Manor will send the person home and recommend consulting a doctor right away. They will not be able to return to work without receiving medical clearance form a physician.

Residents Suspected to Have COVID-19 Infection

A resident suspected to be infected is provided with a face mask that will be worn within the premises and the facility will call the NYSDOH right away. The resident will be isolated in a different room with its door kept closed and the standard airborne and contact precautions will be followed. The staff member who attends to the until and if they are transferred will follow the guidelines of the CDC for use, selection, and disposal of PPE and will maintain a minimum of 6 feet of social distancing from the person.
