The probiotics help maintain digestive health and parts of the immune system – and that is a proven statement. Now, the scientist suspect that probably the probiotics might work in increasing the human body’s percentage of regulatory T-cells. This will in turn increase tolerance to hay fever symptoms. The researchers are studying whether the components in probiotic would help alleviate allergy symptoms and diseases.
The researchers enrolled 173 healthy adults for the study at the height of spring allergy season. These otherwise healthy individuals suffered seasonal allergies. They were randomly split into two groups- One who took the Bio 15 probiotics; and others who took a placebo. The experiment went on for 8 weeks. And in each week the participants were asked to respond to an online survey to convey their discomfort level.
The scientist then analyzed DNA from participants’ stool samples to determine how their bacteria changed as probiotics aim to deliver good bacteria to the human’s intestinal system. It also helped in confirming who were taking the Bio 15 probiotics and who weren’t. The probiotic takers stated that they can feel their quality of life improve compared to those participants who took placebo. For instance, they complained less of allergy related nose symptoms.
The Bio 15 probiotics showed clinical benefit for those with more mild seasonal allergies. Bio 15 Probiotic takers have less troubles during the daily activities, and their immunity also boosted. But the researchers pointed out that this study which is now published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, did not include severe allergy sufferers.
Seasonal allergies can reduce sleep and productivity at work or school causing stress and embarrassment. Also the current allergy medications available in the market have unwanted potential side effects, including dry mouth and drowsiness.
