Rummy is one of the most popular card games. If you know how to play rummy, you must be aware that the game has it has own sets of rules. These rules have to be followed by all the players. You may have however wondered why certain rules and restrictions exist. But there is logic behind these rules, making the game simple and fair for everyone. Below we have mentioned some rummy rules and the logic pertaining to those.

  1. Making a Natural Run before Sets

There is no specific norm in online rummy that restricts you from forming sets before pure and impure sequences, but a natural run is needed for a win. Cards in pure sequences are not counted in points, even if you lost the game. However, certain terms and conditions even apply to how points in the hand are counted.

A set is easier to make than a pure sequence. In the former, you just need cards of different suit but of same face value, but in the latter you need to arrange cards of consecutive order and the same suit in a group of 3 or 4.

  1. Dropping Out of a Game

The facility to drop out of card games is provided so you can decide to quit in case of a weak hand, and thereby save your points. However, dropping out of a game after 2 or 3 turns attracts more penalty than it would early. So, even in dropping a game, there are a few rules. Higher penalties are set for quitting mid-way, because by then the player must have been already aware of how good or bad the hand was, so the decision of quitting should have been take beforehand itself.

  1. Drawing Random Cards

The order of people of who plays when is set at the beginning of the game. You are allowed to pick a card on your turn from either the closed pile or open pile. This rule is applicable to everyone and is simply fair, because in a rummy card game, if a card from open pile is unsuitable, you have all the right to try out a card from the closed deck. The one who plays the first turn has the benefit of choosing between a closed card and an open one. This is allowed to help players to get some details about their opponent’s hand.

  1. Picking and Discarding of Games

One of the most logical rules to play rummy online is the one related to picking and discarding of cards. Here you have to pick a card first, and then discard the one you want. You may discard the same card that you have picked. Imagine if the rule would have been reversed where you had to discard a card before picking one, then there would not be any transparency in the game and from a skill-based game, it would have turned to a game of luck.

  1. Flexible Use of Joker Cards

To make playing card games simpler and thrilling, there is provision of a wild card, specially known as the Joker Card. In a deck usually two printed Joker cards are already present. Besides these, random card is then selected, which as a Joker card throughout the game. Cards of the same face allow become the Joker card in that particular game. For instance, if the picked Joker is 5 of Diamond, then 5s of any suit will be considered as Joker for that game.

Now when you play rummy and lack cards to complete a sequence or set, this Joker card will act as a replacement to it. For instance, you have 8 and 9 of Club, and need either 10 or 7 of Diamond to complete a sequence, in such a case Joker cards will act as replacement to any of these required cards. Preferably, do not use this card to form pure sequences, but sets, and impure sequences.

  1. Few More Rules to the Use of Joker Cards

When you play rummy online real money, and discard a Joker card, the opponent cannot pick it. This rule is formulated to avoid providing rivals an undue advantage over others. Similarly, if a printed Joker card is picked as the random Joker, then Ace is counted as the Joker card, so that a fair number of Joker cards are available for use to everyone.

In Conclusion

There are several other rules of rummy, which are justified for what they are. After all, this game offers an integrated gaming experience only because of the logical regulations and terms it has.
