Florida – A new proposed bill in the state of Florida is going to make Bible courses mandatory in Public schools. Bible courses are not mandatory in the state’s schools as per the current state law. The proposed bill House Bill 341 is already cleared by the House Pre K-12 Quality Subcommittee.

If it passes further then it would give students an opportunity to learn about the new testament and old testament in the Bible. According to the proposed bill, it is not necessary for the students to take the class.

The proposed bill was introduced by Jacksonville Democrat Rep. Kim Daniels who is a Christian Evangelist. Southwest Florida’s lawmakers are asking for more time to study the bill before effecting it on July 2020. According to the Florida House of Representatives, House Bill 341 is a way to relate study with the Bible.

It requires each school to offer specified courses related to the religion. Such courses could prove beneficial for the students in the state because they contain Bible verses for encouragement and others.

A student can choose any Bible translation such as the Hebrew and New Testament. This bill has created a curriculum that would follow the state and federal guidelines regarding religious neutrality. Daniel said that the bill is constitutional and it is based on a 1963 U.S. Supreme Court opinion that says courses can be taught objectively.
